Oracle Licensing on VMware Platform – VMware Support

Oracle fully supports the virtualization of Oracle databases on VMware. To augment Oracle’s support document, VMware also has a total ownership policy for customers with Oracle issues. VMware Support will accept accountability for any Oracle-related issue reported by a customer. By being accountable, VMware Support will drive the issue to resolution regardless of which vendor (VMware, Oracle or others) is responsible for the resolution.

VMware Oracle Support provides customers the following new advantages as part of the existing Support and Subscription contract at no additional charge:

  • Total ownership of Oracle Database technical issues reported to VMware Support
  • Faster resolution of technical issues in VMware environments via a TSANet collaborative support arrangement between VMware Support and Oracle Support [ Solve Multi Vendor Problems Faster & Easier ]
  • Access to a team of Oracle DBA resources within VMware Support to troubleshoot related to Oracle Databases used as a data store or run within a VM
  • Performance tuning and best practices related to Oracle Database used as a data store or run within a VM

Oracle Cloud VMware Solution – A New beginning of a Strategic relationship

VMware is thrilled to announce a new strategic alliance with Oracle Corp to support our mutual customers’ hybrid cloud strategies. The centerpiece of this relationship is a new service that will be offered by Oracle called Oracle Cloud VMware Solution. Full text of the Oracle Cloud VMware Solution announcement can be found here :

http://www.vmware.com/go/vmware-oracle-cloud

This service will enable customers to run VMware Cloud Foundation on Oracle’s Generation 2 Cloud infrastructure. But equally important for the thousands of customers running Oracle software on VMware today in their data centers, Oracle and VMware have entered into a new mutual support agreement for currently supported Oracle products running on VMware environments.

Oracle on VMware customers can now run and implement with enhanced confidence that two of their most strategic vendors are fully aligned and are committed to addressing support issues when running Oracle software in VMware environments.

http://www.virtuallyghetto.com/2015/10/new-method-of-enabling-multiwriter-vmdk-flag-in-vsphere-6-0-update-1.html

VMware ESXi 6.7 Update 1 Release Notes –  PR 1220910: Multi-Writer Locks cannot be set for more than 8 ESXi hosts in a shared environment – In a shared environment such as Raw Device Mapping (RDM) disks, you cannot use Multi-Writer Locks for virtual machines on more than 8 ESXi hosts. If you migrate a virtual machine to a ninth host, it might fail to power on with the error message Could not open xxxx.vmdk or one of the snapshots it depends on. (Too many users). This fix makes the advanced configuration option /VMFS3/GBLAllowMW visible. You can manually enable or disable multi-writer locks for more than 8 hosts by using generation-based locking. This issue is resolved in this release. For more details, see VMware knowledge base article 1034165.
