Click here for see all the paths to acquire VCP & VCAP (VCIX) certification.
If you have attended VMware training course before but not yet acquired VCP, and your target VCP got retired and/or would like to receive the newer version of VCP, you basically have to attend another required course for the newer version of VCP since the version of the course is too old to be used as an requirement.
But, for some older version course, there is little shortcut available to acquire newer version of VCP by attending What’s New course instead.
First off, if you have attended the following courses before but not yet VCP certified, you’re the target audience.
- vSphere v5.x
- vSphere v6.0
- Horizon v6.x
If you have attended other courses, you have to go through the path for VCP certification for the first time.
The guidelines here are:
- A candidate who have attended the older version course but did not get VCP certified can possibly attend What’s New course instead of other 5-day required course to be certified.
- Need to pass vSphere Foundations Exam and the Elective VCP exam to be certified
- One-version upgrade is possible. Two or more version upgrade is NOT possible.
Let me show you the examples.
The diagram below is the path for the candidates who have attended vSphere V5.x course before but would like to upgrade to VCP6-DCV. You can attend What’s New course, which is shorter and cheaper compared with other required 5-day course, and then take vSphere Foundations and VCP Elective Exam. Be careful that only One-version upgrade is possible thus cannot go directly to the higher version.
The diagram below is the path for the candidates who have attended vSphere V6.0 course before but would like to upgrade to VCP6.5-DCV.
The diagram below is the path for the candidates who have attended Horizon V6.x course before but would like to upgrade to VCP7-DTM. We recently got What’s New course available for Horizon which added this exception for the DTM solution track as well.
See you at the next post!
