Thank you for your continuous interest on acquiring VMware Certifications!

Since many candidates are willing to acquire our VMware Certifications, we got many queries regarding the paths and requirements for acquiring and re-certifying those certification. I would like to post this blog series to show you the expected patterns to get your VCP and VCAP (VCIX) certification.

Here are the list certifications that we VMware provides. See VMware Certification website (https://www.vmware.com/education-services/certification.html) for more details.

  • VMware Certified Associate (VCA)
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
  • VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP)
    • VMware Certified Implementation ExpertVCAP (VCIX) as a Milestone
  • VMware Certified Design Expert (VCDX)

We also have Solution Track for each certification that covers the specific VMware products and/or solution, and there is certification that aligned to individual solution track.

  • Datacenter Virtualization (DCV) = vSphere, etc.
  • Desktop and Mobility (DTM) = Horizon, etc.
  • Cloud Management and Automation (CMA) = vRealize Automation, etc.
  • Network Virtualization (NV) = NSX, etc
  • Digital Workspace (DW) = Workspace ONE, etc.

It is important to know that which certification level and solution track you’re aiming for. Each certification has their own web page that shows details includes paths and requirements for acquiring each certification (e.g., VCP6.5-DCV (https://www.vmware.com/education-services/certification/vcp6-5-dcv.html))

Among the above, VCP and VCAP (VCIX) are the major certifications that the most candidates are going towards and where we got many queries regarding paths and stepsto acquire. I will focus on VCP and VCAP (VCIX) for this blog series.

    • Exam based on design tool, drag-and-drop, multiple choice, etc.

You need to decide which certification you want to go, Deployment or Design.

Here are the expected paths to acquire VCAP and VCIX:

  1. VCAP Certification for the first time
  2. VCAP Upgrade
  3. Exception: Having Cisco CCIE and want VCAP6-NV Deploy
