If you already have VCP, and would like to acquire another VCP, you can use VCP Upgrade method.
On this post, I would like to show the VCP Upgrade by exam from the different solution track.
You can take another VCP on the different solution track by passing the new exam. You can upgrade up to three version to directly acquire the latest version of VCP. Below is the overall image.
So the guidelines here are:
- Can skip course attendance
- Up to Three-version upgrade is possible to acquire latest version VCP in the different solution track.
- Not capable of having Four or more version upgrade
- Need to pass the Elective VCP Exam to upgrade
- An exam you’ve already taken and pass before is NOT applicable for upgrade.
- Spring Professional do NOT have a path to upgrade to/from the different solution track
Let me show an example on each solution track.
To upgrade to VCP-DCV 2024 from the different solution track, you can upgrade directly from the certification in other solution tracks version 2021 or above (except for Spring Professional) inside the “Capable of Upgrade” box below, by passing VCP-DCV exam. You need to pass either the existing exam already available or possibly be a new exam going to be released this year. This is also possible from VCP version 2024 in the other solution track.
You need to take and pass one of the exams.
The list below is as of February 2024.
- VMware vSphere 8.x Professional (2V0-21.23)
- Professional VMware vSphere 7.x (2V0-21.20) (Retired on January 31st, 2024)

Path if you hold: “VCP in any track with a 2021 version or newer” – “Pass the qualifying exam”
To upgrade to VCP-NV 2024 from the different solution track, you can upgrade directly from the certification in other solution tracks version 2021 or above (except for Spring Professional) inside the “Capable of Upgrade” box below, by passing VCP-NV exam. You need to pass either the existing exam already available or possibly be a new exam going to be released this year. This is also possible from VCP version 2024 in the other solution track.
You need to take and pass one of the exams.
The list below is as of February 2024.
- VMware NSX 4.x Professional V2 (2V0 – 41.24)
- VMware NSX 4.x Professional (2V0-41.23) (Retiring soon on June 30, 2024)

You need to pass either the existing exam already available or possibly be a new exam going to be released this year. This is also possible from VCP version 2024 in the other solution track.
