In this post, I would like to introduce the upgrade path to latest VCP 2019 version – from the different solution track based on what certification you’re holding. If you want to see the upgrade path in the same solution track, please go here.
We recently have several important changes made to our VMware Certification. If you’re not aware, please also refer below.
– New VCP version in year designator
– Removing 2-year VCP Recertification Requirement and Expired VCP Rollback
Unlike the upgrade path in the same solution track, there is not mach impact to the upgrade path from the different solution track.
The upgrade path is also included in the FAQ in the official announcement above but let me visualize those for more clear understanding.
For your reference, the basic understanding of VCP upgrade from the different solution track, you can refer here. The basic understanding did not really change to upgrade to VCP 2019. Important points are the below:
– Up to 2 version upgrade is possible (still not capable of 3 version upgrade which is newly added on upgrading in the same solution track for VCP 2019)
– Upgrading FROM VCP-DW solution track, the candidates need to pass the Foundations Exam in order to challenge other solution track.
First off with upgrading to VCP-DCV 2019 from the different solution track.
It is possible to upgrade from 2 older versions from each solution track which is:
– DTM – From VCP7-DTM or VCP-DTM 2018
– CMA – From VCP6-CMA or VCP7-CMA
– NV – From VCP6-NV
– DW – From VCP-DW 2018, but need to also pass the Foundation exam
Next with upgrading to VCP-DTM 2019 from the different solution track.
It is possible to upgrade from 2 older versions from each solution track which is:
– DCV – From VCP6-DCV or VCP6.5-DCV
– CMA – From VCP6-CMA or VCP7-CMA
– NV – From VCP6-NV
– DW – From VCP-DW 2018, but need to also pass the Foundation exam
Here’s with upgrading to VCP-CMA 2019 from the different solution track.
It is possible to upgrade from 2 older versions from each solution track which is:
– DCV – From VCP6-DCV or VCP6.5-DCV
– DTM – From VCP7-DTM or VCP-DTM 2018
– NV – From VCP6-NV
– DW – From VCP-DW 2018, but need to also pass the Foundation exam
Here’s with upgrading to VCP-NV 2019 from the different solution track.
It is possible to upgrade from 2 older versions from each solution track which is:
– DCV – From VCP6-DCV or VCP6.5-DCV
– DTM – From VCP7-DTM or VCP-DTM 2018
– CMA – From VCP6-CMA or VCP7-CMA
– DW – From VCP-DW 2018, but need to also pass the Foundation exam
Here’s with upgrading to VCP-DW 2019 from the different solution track.
It is possible to upgrade from 2 older versions from each solution track which is:
– DCV – From VCP6-DCV or VCP6.5-DCV
– DTM – From VCP7-DTM or VCP-DTM 2018
– CMA – From VCP6-CMA or VCP7-CMA
– NV – From VCP6-NV
Note that the Foundation Exam is not required to upgrade to VCP-DW from the different solution track because the candidates already pass the exam or having the equivalent knowledge.
Of course, it is no problem to upgrade between VCP 2019 certifications! (From VCP-DCV 2019 to VCP-DTM 2019, etc)
