If you are going for a VCP for the first time, you basically have to first attend a Required Course, take vSphere Foundations Exam, and VCP Elective Exams at last. Below is the overall image of the steps.
Steps to acquire a VCP for the first time:
- Attend a required course
- For the full list of required courses, see each certification webpage.
- VCP6.5-DCV as an example (https://www.vmware.com/education-services/certification/vcp6-5-dcv.html)
- On Certification Path if you hold dropdown list, select “no VCP certifications”
- Expand Attend one of the required training courses
- The course can be format of ILT, Live Online, or On Demand. See the offering for each course.
- For the full list of required courses, see each certification webpage.
- Take vSphere Foundations Exam
- Can take either vSphere Foundations Exam v6.0 or v6.5 regardless of VCP version.
- Take VCP Elective Exam
- Take the corresponding VCP Exam.
- There is a exam called Delta Exam for VCP-DCV but can NOT be used for the acquiring VCP for the first time.
The above 3 steps applied to VCP-DCV, DTM, CMA, and NV solution track.
For VCP-DW 2018, there is an exception that it does not require vSphere Foundations Exam shown on the above image. This can be acquired in 2 steps compared with other solution track. Attend the required course and go straight to VCP Exam.
Please note that all VCP will expire in 2 years from the date you certified unless you re-certify and extend the expiration date.
