If VCP Expired

Click here for see all the paths to acquire VCP & VCAP (VCIX) certification.

You are once possessed VCP certification but got expired for some reason, you basically have to go through the path for VCP certification for the first time, which means you have to attend the required course, take vSphere Foundations Exam, and take VCP Elective Exam again.

But, for some VCP expiration, there is little shortcut available to re-acquire newer version of VCP by attending What’s New course instead.

First off, if you have the following VCP expired, you’re the target audience.

  • VCP5-DCV
  • VCP6-DCV
  • VCP6-DTM

If you have got other VCP expired, you have to go through the path for VCP certification for the first time.

The guidelines here are:

  • A candidate who got a VCP expired can possibly attend What’s New course instead of other 5-day required course to be certified again
  • Need to pass vSphere Foundations Exam and the Elective VCP Exam to be certified
  • One-version upgrade is possible. Two-version upgrade or more is NOT possible.

Let me show you the examples.

The diagram below is the path for Expired VCP5-DCV who can upgrade to VCP6-DCV. You can attend What’s New course, which is shorter and cheaper compared with other required 5-day course, and then take vSphere Foundations and VCP Elective Exam again. Be careful that only One-version upgrade is possible thus cannot go directly to the higher version.

The diagram below is the path for Expired VCP6-DCV who can upgrade to VCP6.5-DCV.

The diagram below is the path for Expired VCP6-DTM who can upgrade to VCP7-DTM. We recently got What’s New course available for Horizon which added this exception for the DTM solution track as well.

See you at the next post!

(The above paths and requirements are as of July, 2018. These can be changed without prior notice.)
