vRealize Automation has a default mechanism to assign static IP address during the provisioning/decommissioning of machines. However, many companies already use a commercial IP Address Management (IPAM) system to not only assign IP Addresses but also record DNS entries. IP address management is one of the more common use cases for extending standard vRealize Automation capabilities to integrate with existing tools and processes.
In the past many IPAM vendors offered vRealize Orchestrator plugins that could be invoked from the vRealize Automation service delivery process. In vRealize Automation 7.1, which will be available shortly, VMware working with Infoblox has developed a new more tightly integrated approach for assigning IP Addresses and DNS entries using a commercial IP Address Management Solutions. This new solution will still be available on the VMware Solutions Exchange. The advantages is the simplicity and ease of use needed to setup this integration has been significantly been reduced to a matter of minutes and eliminated the need for professional service to help set up this process.
