As we enter into an exciting new era, the End-User Computing (EUC) Division of Broadcom (formerly VMware EUC) is thrilled to announce that VMware was recently recognized as a Leader in The Forrester Wave™: Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), Q4 2023 report, receiving the highest score in the current offering category and second-highest score in the strategy category.
In the report, Forrester evaluated nine UEM providers against 28 criteria across three categories — current offering, strategy, and market presence. VMware was top-ranked in the current offering category with the highest possible scores across 14 criteria, including operating system support, digital employee experience (DEX), extensibility, infrastructure requirements, day zero support, and certifications. VMware also received the second-highest score in the strategy category with the highest possible scores in the vision, innovation, and roadmap criteria.
Forrester emphasized simplification, AI, and automation, advising UEM customers to look for providers that enable automation through a comprehensive data strategy, help drive the convergence of IT and security operations, and provide a strong foundation for digital employee experience (DEX).
“While previous UEM evaluations focused on how vendors could drive consolidation by displacing third-party operating system (OS) management tools, this year’s evaluation studies how UEM providers are trying to simplify endpoint management for customers by displacing third-party endpoint management functions like patch and vulnerability management.” — The Forrester Wave™: Unified Endpoint Management (UEM), Q4 2023 report
We believe Forrester recognized VMware as a Leader in this evaluation because of our Workspace ONE product, which enables customers to drive IT modernization with location-agnostic device management, implement a zero trust security model, and empower today’s anywhere workforce. In the report, Forrester specifically states, “VMware continues to balance DEX, management, and security exceptionally well. VMware combines endpoint management, virtual desktops and apps, and identity capabilities to form the Workspace ONE Anywhere Workspace platform. Despite Broadcom’s mid-2022 announcement of its intent to acquire VMware, Workspace ONE is sustaining its momentum as a top player in the UEM market.”
Recent innovations to our Anywhere Workspace platform
In the EUC Division, we recognize Workspace ONE needs to evolve with our customers, which is why we continue to innovate to meet evolving requirements and use cases. Over the past year, we’ve reimagined the very foundation of our platform to build on our autonomous workspace vision. We announced the following recent innovations at VMware Explore 2023 Las Vegas and Barcelona.
Enhancements to Workspace ONE DEX solution
With general availability of DEX for Horizon, DEX for third-party managed devices, and guided root cause analysis (RCA) — plus planned ITSM Connector enhancements for ServiceNow — customers can solve their employee experience challenges in a unified way, with flexibility to grow with their use cases. DEX for Horizon allows admins to view an experience score encompassing logon duration, VDI performance, and more. Guided RCA uses AI to identify the likely root cause of an issue with an associated confidence score, allowing IT to easily identify the appropriate remediation action, without spending precious time and effort on data analysis for troubleshooting. Combining guided RCA with AI insights and Freestyle Orchestrator creates the new AI-powered stack admins will use to monitor, problem solve, and remediate with greater efficiency than ever before.
Best in class UEM and security
Recently, we announced multiple Mac improvements for Workspace ONE, including support for Workspace ONE Freestyle Orchestrator and the release of the new macOS updates dashboard. With this dashboard, IT can schedule macOS updates, download them automatically, allow users to install at their convenience, and more. Because end-to-end manageability and security for today’s distributed workforce requires a holistic approach to vulnerability management, we are furthering our vulnerability assessment, prioritization, remediation, out-of-band support, and reporting. For desktops, this includes expanding our Enterprise App Repository to macOS and Windows applications for end-to-end vulnerability remediation and partnering with Intel to deliver remote PC wake and power capabilities for out-of-band Intel vPro® devices. Further, we announced below the OS vulnerability management for hardware and firmware on all Intel devices. For organizations looking to protect their mobile devices and environments from phishing attacks, Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense integrated phishing and content protection is a comprehensive security solution that addresses email, SMS, messaging, and social media-based threats on iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices.
New innovations for frontline worker use cases
As part of our ongoing effort to empower frontline workers, we’ve added six new frontline-specific dashboards pre-built to help you optimize and automate mission-critical device deployments. Dashboards available today include Workspace ONE Launcher metrics for shared devices, device utilization and lost device prevention, Zebra battery health, charging state of devices, and available RAM/storage, with additional templates being added in upcoming releases. We also launched shared device conditional access with Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Microsoft Azure Active Directory). With this new integration, Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management can register shared devices with Entra ID to enable granular, app-level conditional access policies — with minimal user intervention — to ensure better security and a positive DEX. Workspace ONE and Entra ID customers can enable shared device conditional access for Android devices today, with support for iOS devices coming in the future.
Freestyle Orchestrator in Workspace ONE Intelligence
Workspace ONE Intelligence customers can now build the same powerful, policy-based workflows but with a modern, low-code canvas user interface. The new Freestyle Orchestrator canvas for Workspace ONE Intelligence immediately improves DEX and brings customers closer to the next evolution of automation improvements across the Workspace ONE ecosystem with more capabilities within the canvas, additional resources, an improved connector framework, and more complex workflows. In the future, we plan on unifying workflow automations across Workspace ONE into a single orchestration platform for an even more powerful workflow orchestration experience.
