Today we are announcing the availability of HCX Enterprise, designed to provide additional functionality above and beyond the HCX Advanced platform that is embedded in our VCPP partner offerings, VMware Cloud on AWS, and NSX Enterprise Plus. At launch HCX Enterprise will be able to deliver 3 key capabilities for enterprise customers: Non-vSphere to vSphere Migration, Large Scale Bulk Migration, Advanced Disaster Recovery with SRM Readiness.

VMware has been on a journey for the past 20 years evolving IT infrastructure from within the datacenter to the cloud and more recently across many clouds. Over that journey, a key piece of technology has always been mobility for the infrastructure within. As VMware ESX evolved to vSphere, vMotion provided the ability to move VMs across clusters. As vSphere evolved to infrastructure stacks, VMware NSX added the capability to move across networks. And as we’ve adapted VMware stacks to run in every major cloud, including AWS, Azure, GCP, and in VCPP partners like IBM, OVH, Centurylink, the ability to migrate datacenters and applications with platforms like VMware HCX has been a critical component of helping our customers on the journey to multi-cloud and hybrid cloud adoption.

We see hybrid cloud and multi-cloud becoming a reality for customers with modernization projects encompassing public clouds, private clouds, telco clouds, and even spanning to the edge. HCX provides a mobility platform across all of these domains by abstracting the underlying infrastructure, automating the creation of connectivity across them, and extending the ability to do replication and vMotion to enable the freedom of movement that is needed to support evolving strategies for applications and platform investments.

Over the last 18 months, we’ve found that in a changing environment, customers first need the ability to migrate applications to leverage new infrastructure. Over time they look to optimize these new infrastructure investments and want to rebalance workloads across environments. Additionally, they need to adapt disaster protection plans to meet this multi-cloud world and look to leverage the HCX mobility platform to simplify disaster avoidance and disaster recovery.

Going along on this journey with customers using the VMware HCX platform, we’ve rapidly evolved the product to meet these needs and created a new enterprise set of features to help them continue down this path. Today we are announcing the availability of HCX Enterprise, designed to provide additional functionality above and beyond the HCX Advanced platform that is embedded in our VCPP partner offerings, VMware Cloud on AWS, and NSX Enterprise Plus.

At launch HCX Enterprise will be able to deliver 3 key capabilities for enterprise customers:

1. Non-vSphere to vSphere Migration
With HCX Enterprise, non-vSphere workload migration is now supported starting with KVM and Hyper-V, providing customers a simple path to re-platforming applications for complete control.

2. Large Scale Bulk Migration
With this most recent release we’re integrating HCX with vMotion combining the scalability benefits of bulk migration (parallelism, scheduling, etc.) with the ability to migrate hundreds of live workloads at once with no downtime.

3. Advanced Disaster Recovery with SRM
HCX Enterprise works with VMware Site Recovery Manager to combine best-in-class hybrid connectivity capabilities with best-in-class disaster recovery for more secure, efficient data replication and recovery of critical workloads.

Note: This delivery of VMware HCX Enterprise is an add-on SKU available for customers using NSX Enterprise Plus.
