Both, the M3-SE-VSVR-P and M3-SE-VSAN-P are portable distributed systems designed to deliver all of the value, benefits, and capabilities of software-defined storage technologies provided by the VMware Hyper-Converged Software (HCS) solution in space-constrained environments. Some of these space-constrained environments include military/commercial vehicles, ships, aircrafts, tactical vehicles, tents, command centers, joint special operations, surveillance, and many others that require a small form factor computing solutions. These devices were designed to meet a set of very specific small form factor requirements for tactical deployments which included decreased in size, weight, and power in order to be accommodated into specialized transportation vehicles.
DTECH LABS and its participating design partners evaluated and tested over 15 different Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) and storage solutions, and together unanimously selected VMware Hyper-Converged Software (HCS) solution to build the M3-SE-VSVR-P and M3-SE-VSAN to meet and satisfy the requirements for a mobile and modular tactical device. The M3-SE-VSVR-P and M3-SE-VSAN are high powered 5th generation Core i7 computer designed to support multiple virtual machines in a small, rugged form factor that include ten hard drive slots intended to be used with VMware Virtual SAN.
Both devices are built to deliver maximum levels of performance and all the capabilities provided by VMware Hyper-Converged Software. With VMware Virtual SAN, the M3-SE-VSVR-P and M3-SE-VSAN-P significantly outperform previous infrastructure solutions and also decrease the amount of time required for customer training. With the M3-SE-VSVR-P and M3-SE-VSAN-P, the average deployment time for the entire infrastructure is decreased at least 50% by leveraging VMware Hyper-Converged Software (HCS) extensible deployment and configuration flexibility with PowerCLI for fully automated deployments. This solution significantly decreases the need for DTECH LABS to prepare and train their customers with required management knowledge since all of the components of the VMware Hyper-Converged Software (HCS) solution, including Virtual SAN are integrated and centrally managed directly from vCenter. DTECH LABS customers are able to rely on their common vSphere knowledge and skill sets to successfully manage and operate this new solution.

After extensive industry capabilities analysis, DTECH LAB and partners concluded that VMware Virtual SAN was the most logical solution for the challenges, and because of that VMware Hyper-Converged Software (HCS) was chosen and also for its ease of integration capabilities, and decreased learning curve and overall management and performance values.
