VMware Tanzu Transformer Cloud Management Platform Migration VMware Aria

VMware Tanzu Transformer at AWS re:Invent 2023

Last week, at AWS re:Invent 2023 November 27-December 1, 2023, the VMware team shared the latest about VMware technology, including details about VMware Tanzu Transformer (formerly VMware Aria Migration) in Las Vegas. There were several teams there across VMware, including the Tanzu marketing, sales, services, and engineering teams, who met with customers at AWS re:Invent. There was a lot of activity and interest in the VMware booths, sessions, and customer meetings. The VMware Tanzu microsite lists the customer and partner activity that was available last week.

As our customers look for easy ways to assess their current data center environment for future moves to VMware Cloud on AWS, other data centers, or other clouds, they need quick tools like VMware Tanzu Transformer to help simplify their migration journey.

During the Expo demonstration at AWS re:Invent, the first step to show a successful workload migration was identifying the application resources that need to be migrated. VMware Tanzu Transformer makes this discovery process simple by gathering data from the application traffic flows and grouping the workloads into logical move groups based on CPU, memory, and storage size. The solution then calculates a TCO for VMware Cloud on AWS or other clouds.

VMware Tanzu Transformer is one of the many services that are part of VMware Tanzu Intelligence Services and runs within the VMware Tanzu Hub (formerly VMware Aria Hub) platform dashboard.

The simplified view of all workload resources dependencies summarized for migration planning makes it easy to get a holistic view of the organization’s application landscape.

VMware Tanzu Transformer allows organizations to quickly receive migration assessments for workloads by creating an inventory assessment from their vCenter(s) in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) using live traffic flows. The tool also provides a cost-benefit analysis of their on-premises environment, VMware Cloud on AWS, and other clouds. The result is a dynamic map of the VMware Cloud Foundation applications that changes as the applications change. The analysis built upon accurate application traffic data makes it easier for customers to get line of business approvals for data center migrations. The cost assumptions used in the calculations use standard industry default costs. Customers can further customize the cost assumptions as needed. Without the VMware Tanzu Transformer solution, customers previously would rely on spreadsheets and outdated application information.
