Half Year Review: Digital Workspace Advancements for Security in 2018

It feels like 2018 just began, yet here we are in the middle of summer! Time is flying by, but there’s been no shortage of activity centered around security, privacy, and compliance for our End-User Computing team. In the first half of 2018, we’ve announced a number of digital workspace advancements in security – including features, acquisitions, partnerships, and recognition for the VMware Workspace ONE platform.

Digital Workspace Advancements for Security in 2018

  • Workspace ONE Intelligence – In the springtime, we introduced the industry’s first intelligence-driven digital workspace with Workspace ONE Intelligence.[learn_more caption=”Learn More”]
Workspace ONE Intelligence aggregates and correlates device, app and user data to give IT insights into the digital workspace environment and automation to make better, more data-driven decisions. One of the key benefits of Workspace ONE Intelligence is increasing security and compliance by helping detect and remediate security vulnerabilities, identifying out of compliance devices and apply security patches quickly, at scale, and in an automated fashion. Workspace ONE Intelligence now offers a Security Risk Dashboard that gives insights into devices that are at risk of an attack and an Apps Detail Dashboard that can help find potential security risks due to app engagement behavior.[/learn_more]
  • Workspace ONE Trust Network – As a part of the intelligence-driven digital workspace launch, we also introduced Workspace ONE Trust Network, which gives organizations a comprehensive approach to securing the digital workspace. [learn_more caption=”Learn More”]
Workspace ONE has many inherent security capabilities built into the platform, including data loss prevention (DLP), encryption, access management and more. Workspace ONE Trust Network allows customers to combine a security ecosystem of partner solutions with the Workspace ONE platform security capabilities, providing an aggregated view of modern-day threats that can be detected and remediated in the digital workspace. Integrations with cloud-access security brokers (CASBs), endpoint detection and response (EDR) platforms and other security solutions are currently underway, so stay tuned for more information this year.[/learn_more]
  • Workspace ONE Mobile Flows – To help connect backend systems and make productivity on mobile a little easier, we introduced Workspace ONE Mobile Flows. [learn_more caption=”Learn More”]
Mobile Flows automatically surface context-based actions from backend systems, such as ServiceNow and Salesforce, onto VMware Boxer. Workspace ONE Mobile Flows help uniquely tie together end-user experience with security. We’re also excited to announce a new privacy module for VMware Boxer, Browser and Content Locker! This module helps provide transparency of privacy about what data gets collected from these apps.[/learn_more]
  • Unified Endpoint Management – To continue breaking the silos of traditional management across all major operating systems and endpoints, we’ve introduced a number of security advancements for UEM. [learn_more caption=”Learn More”]
Here’s a highlight reel of the digital workspace advancements announced so far this year:

  • App Virtualization – To deliver windows virtual desktops and apps the Workspace ONE platform relies on VMware Horizon.[learn_more caption=”Learn More”]
Here’s a highlight reel of the security advancements announced so far this year:

      • In Horizon 7 version 7.5, virtual machines can use Virtualization-based security (VBS) on vSphere 6.7.
      • App Volumes 2.14, a critical component of JMP (just-in-time management platform) in Horizon, now supports custom roles and privileges with role-based access controls (RBAC) to improve security.
      • Horizon Cloud on Microsoft Azure has garnered a lot of interest since its launch last year and to help provide better security, the solution now supports RADIUS-based two-factor authentication.

  • E8 Security Aquisition – We’ve added E8 to our End-User Computing portfolio, to provide deeper behavior analytics, advanced threat protection, and automated data correlation.[learn_more caption=”Learn More”]
User and entity behavior analytics is becoming a crucial part of digital workspace security. Having insight into risk leveraging machine learning helps drive predictive security, and as such, we were excited to acquire the technology and team of E8 Security. [/learn_more]
  • Okta Partnership – We announced a new partnership with Okta, to help deliver advanced security to the digital workspace with integrated conditional access based on device trust.[learn_more caption=”Learn More”]
Use both Workspace ONE and the Okta Identity Cloud for better user experience with access to all apps in Workspace ONE, including Okta SAML apps, and better security with integrated conditional access based on device trust. [/learn_more]
  • Awards – We were honored to be recognized as the best endpoint security management solution when we received the 2018 SIIA CODIE award earlier this month!
