A Strategic C-Suite Playbook for Navigating the 5G World

Today telecom operators are fortifying their 5G efforts by buying spectrum, filing patents and creating test labs to explore use cases. They are forging development partnerships with the likes of tower companies, infrastructure and cloud providers, municipal authorities, broadcasters, manufacturers and software start-ups.

Now their challenge is to move from experimenting with 5G technologies to developing viable business models. But what will the new revenue streams encompass and how will experimentation be balanced with commercial strategy? What new mindsets, cultures and attitudes will 5G engender as partnerships across diverse sectors and backgrounds are formed? And, crucially, what security implications will arise?

By 2023, 5G will make up 1/5 of all mobile data traffic and is forecasted to drive a $12 trillion economic activity in hardware, software, and services. Download the Economist Intelligence Unit’s A Strategic C-Suite Playbook for Navigating the 5G World, to learn about the benefits of 5G and how telecoms can turn 5G into a viable business model.

Understanding the Power of Cloud in Service Provider Networks: Telco Cloud for Dummies

It’s no secret that service providers have long identified the need to leverage the power of the cloud. That said, we’re still seeing a struggle in the market to discover the right ways and places to leverage these technologies. To support that discovery, we worked with Wiley Publishing to produce this Telco Cloud for Dummies book.

In this book, we walk through the transformation of service providers to digital service providers. Brought about by increasing customer expectations, a lack of business and service agility, and rising network costs, service providers know that this next generation of networks architectures will be the key to reimagining customer relationships and thriving in the digital marketplace. You will learn how the telco cloud is the foundation of the transformation toward software-driven, cloud-enabled network architectures, flexible DevOps-driven operations, and the ability to leverage new revenue-generating business models.

VMware Telco Cloud lets you run your telco network like a cloud with software-driven telecom infrastructure built to run virtual and cloud native network functions, and enable agile operations. The telco cloud is an essential platform to build and deliver new consumer and enterprise applications and compete with agile over-the-top vendors who have been operating digital, cloud-enabled networks for years.

You learn how the telco cloud can help you succeed on your digital transformation journey in the new cloud economy:

  1. What it takes to become a digital service provider in a multi-cloud world
  2. How to build a foundation for the telco cloud
  3. The requirements for the telco cloud
  4. Which VMware technologies power the telco cloud
  5. Key benefits of the telco cloud

VMware’s Telco Cloud Solutions Receive Industry Recognition

Thank You – Thank You Very Much

VMware has been a leading provider to Enterprises for the last 21 years, but in Telco we are a relative newcomer, so getting recognized by our peers, doesn’t go unnoticed or unappreciated.

This month our VMware vCloud NFV Open Stack platform was recognized for innovation and excellence by the World Communications Organization #WCA19. For 21 years, the World Communication Awards have recognized innovation and excellence for global telecoms, and today continue to be the most revered mark of achievement in the telecom industry. The market has changed considerably since the first awards in 1999 and the relationship between operators and vendors has been and continues to be redrawn. To reflect this, the categories presented are changed every year and now reflect the latest trends of #5G, #AI, #digitaltransformation, #NFV and #IoT as well as the traditional awards such as global and wholesale operator.

While we appreciate the accolades, our focus for our Telco customers is paramount. We want them to succeed in their digital transformations, and to become formidable participants in the new cloud economy that will be enabled with 5G.

World Communications Award 2019

Winner: VMware vCloud NFV for OpenStack

  • Huawei Fully Converged Cloud Core Network for 5G
  • Parallel Wireless Virtual 5G Native Architecture
  • Red Hat Technology for NFV

Winner! Digital Transformation Asia 2019: Best New Catalyst in Show

In addition, we’re proud to share that in participation with ecosystem partners: Ericsson, Infosys, Intel, and HPE and operator champions: Airtel, AIS, Globe Telecom, KDDI Research, Optus, Singtel, Telkomsel our joint catalyst project “Being Edgy” won “Best new Catalyst in show” at TM Forum’s Digital Transformation Asia 2019.

5G will be the gold mine for enterprise business units of telcos. The ability of dynamic network slicing with zero-touch orchestration is touted to be a critical success factor for 5G. However, this is just solving half of the puzzle. Edge cloud management is the other missing piece. Edge use cases have varying characteristics and thus require various edge implementations in order to be efficient and cost-effective. Being able to scale beyond public, private, and hybrid clouds extending automated lifecycle management to the edge is of great importance.

There is currently no standardization in this space and many open source projects have tried to address the requirements in this space. This Catalyst, which leveraged vCloud NFV Open Stack as a common platform, explored the maturity of the solutions in the market for edge cloud management and how they could be wired up consistently with the automation and orchestrating happening close to the core sites.
