Traditionally, the IT landscape has struggled with widespread human error, over-provisioned resources, and poor governance. The lack of automation led to failed deployments, compliance, and security risks, below par performance and downtime issues. Moreover, IT teams could not keep up with business needs as legacy manual processes slowed application delivery and developers found themselves waiting weeks for their environments to function properly.
So, how does IT pivot away from traditional workload management toward a more agile infrastructure and application configuration, provisioning, DevOps for infrastructure and software-defined datacenter environments?
Automation is at the heart of this, and today we are thrilled to announce the general availability of VMware vRealize Automation 8.5, the latest release of VMware’s industry-leading modern infrastructure automation platform.
With the new and enhanced capabilities in vRealize Automation 8.5, customers can rapidly implement self-service multi-clouds with centralized governance, utilize iterative development with enterprise-ready Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and infrastructure pipelining, apply system compliance and vulnerability remediation, leverage application rollout with network and security and manage Kubernetes infrastructure self-service and governance.
Key vRealize Automation 8.5 capabilities and enhancements:
- Leverage support for Microsoft Azure enhanced provisioning. Continuing the drumroll from our previous vRealize Automation release, this launch brings even more native support for Azure native services. Specifically, customers can use Azure resource groups support across multiple regions, enable/disable boot diagnostics and log analytics, reuse Azure resource group for storage Day 2 operations and leverage support for the latest version of Azure Marketplace images.
- Deploy a self-service hybrid cloud environment. vRealize Automation brings the “self-service” to VMware Cloud infrastructure in order to elevate the cloud consumption experience. And as VMware Cloud expands support for additional public clouds such as Azure, GCP, and OCI, so does vRealize Automation. Today, we are happy to announce that vRealize Automation has certified the management of VMware Cloud workloads running in additional public and hybrid clouds, including Azure VMware Solution, Google Cloud VMware Engine, Oracle Cloud VMware Solution, and VMware Cloud on Dell EMC.
- Leverage a new method to manage resources and workloads with resource view for deployments. vRealize Automation makes it easier for customers to manage individual resources in order to obtain increased visibility, monitoring and perform Day 2 actions more efficiently. This capability is well positioned for first-time users looking for either deployment constructs or direct resource manageability and allows them to be more effective in their day-to-day cloud management activities.
- Apply resource limits with resource quota policies. With this release, vRealize Automation has significantly enhanced the ability to define resource limits. Customers can enforce quotas per user and restrict the consumption of precious infrastructure resources such as CPU, memory, and storage. As the limits apply, the user gains better visibility into the resource usage and can create a more efficient cloud operating model.
- Leverage an enhanced network automation support. To enable a simple management for multi-datacenter environments, vRealize Automation provides support for NSX Federation for existing networks, security groups and stretch networks via NSX-T Cloud Account. Also, vRealize Automation Migration Assistant makes it easier for VMware Cloud Foundation and VMware NSX customers to migrate their NSX-V constructs to NSX-T. By leveraging support for additional topologies, users can accurately map NSX-V and NSX-T constructs and enable a solid handshake between vRealize Automation and NSX Manager.
- Apply third-party integration enhancements. With this release, vRealize Automation enables the set-up of Kubernetes with OpenShift for the Terraform interface and provides authentication for Terraform service. By supporting an enhanced and secure Terraform implementation, vRealize Automation embraces open-source and delivers on enterprise-ready capabilities.
- Discover native configuration automation with enhanced SaltStack Config integrations. vRealize Automation now supports automated Salt minion deployments, deploys software configurations as Salt state files in VMware Cloud Templates, and supports Day 2 actions for adding additional Salt minions and updating Salt state files. SaltStack Config provides fast, declarative state management to ensure systems are configured properly on Day 0 and automated drift remediation to keep them that way on Day 2 and beyond.
