Hi everyone, Happy Tuesday!
Thanks for joining us last week at VMware Explore Las Vegas, in person or online. What an amazing journey it has been! Together, we pushed the boundaries of what’s possible across the multi-cloud world.
For those of you who haven’t seen this, here is the keynote session led by VMware’s SVP and GM, Purnima Padmanabhan: Accelerate Application Delivery for Continuous Innovation. See how VMware’s application solutions help businesses like yours innovate and create value faster by accelerating application delivery.
We hope you left the conference armed with new insights, meaningful connections, and a renewed knowledge of how VMware Aria Automation products will work better together with VMware Tanzu products to accelerate innovations. On that note, I also want to share with you What’s New with VMware Aria at VMware Explore 2023 and highlight the innovation of VMware Aria Automation’s Next-Gen Public Cloud Management!
In the words of a famous innovator, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.” In this August 2023 release, we continued to create and add support to public cloud resources with the new plugin based framework including:
Plugin based Custom naming support:
VMware Aria Automation plugin based framework now supports custom naming feature. Users will be able to define custom naming templates at the project level or org level and use them in the same way as classic resources. This feature allows admins to easily manage and automate multiple naming standards.
Plugin based Day 2 actions support:
VMware Aria Automation continues to enhance support for Day 2 actions on public clouds with the new plugin based architecture. Users now can easily power on and off, resume and suspend GCP VMs; and also turn on and off VMs on AWS*EC2, providing more workload lifecycle management options to users.
Plugin based FIPS compliance support:
VMware Aria Automation plugin based framework is now FIPS compliant! It satisfies requirements from US federal government divisions, research institutions, universities, financial institutions, hospitals, defense contractors, and anyone else touching government networks or protecting government data. This enhancement helps assure the confidentiality and security of those data and makes it possible for organizations in public sectors to leverage the latest innovation of VMware Aria Automation.
In addition to enhanced public cloud support, we have also implemented several new features to enhance the holistic automation experience.
Add a cloud account for vCenter connected to vSphere+:
This feature introduces support for adding a cloud account for vCenter that is connected to the vSphere+ cloud service. This enhancement simplifies the cloud administrator’s initial onboarding experience by no longer requiring the IP / FQDN or cloud proxy information for each corresponding vCenter. All vCenters that are connected to vSphere+ cloud service in the same VMware cloud organization are automatically discovered by Aria Automation SaaS and can be selected one at a time. This feature provides a more convenient onboarding experience for users.
Service Broker UI updates:
The VMware Aria Automation Service Broker catalog items UI has been updated to be more user-centric: Adding a list view so catalog items can be viewed in a list; New design and font for the catalog card so it allows longer description and name; Smaller “My Resource Usage” summary; Sort and search are moved to top right side. These features make the UI more user-friendly, providing users more flexibility and convenience.
VMware Aria Automation Config support for Salt Onedir Packages:
VMware Aria Automation Config now supports salt installed with Onedir packages. Onedir stands for “one directory” because the goal is to provide a single directory containing all the executables that Salt needs. It includes the version of Python needed by Salt and its required dependencies. Onedir packages simplify the installation process because they allow users to use Salt out of the box without installing Python or other dependencies first.
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Changes related to Terraform License changes by HashiCorp
HashiCorp announced on August 10, 2023, that its source code license from Mozilla Public License (MPL) is changing to the Business Source License (BSL/BUSL) for future releases of its products, including Terraform, Vault, Consul, Boundary, Nomad, Waypoint, Packer, and Vagrant. This licensing change affects only Terraform versions greater than 1.5.5. As a result, we are immediately restricting customers from choosing any Terraform versions greater than 1.5.5 in VMware Aria Automation to execute their Terraform configurations.
