VMware Explore 2023 VMware App Volumes VMware Horizon

Top 5 desktop and app virtualization takeaways from VMware Explore 2023 Las Vegas

*Hands clapping*

Anddd that’s a wrap! This year at VMware Explore, our VDI track was full of great breakout sessions, tutorials, meet-the-expert sessions, and more. If you weren’t able to attend VMware Explore or the VDI sessions, you can watch them on demand from our VMware Explore video library. With all the news, announcements, and updates, you may need a quick recap. Here are the top five takeaways for all things VMware Horizon:

1. Your app management strategy just became clearer with Apps Everywhere!

Need help managing your apps? We know. Customers run into many challenges managing apps across various VDI, DaaS (desktop-as-a-service), and published app vendors. These issues include time spent managing app lifecycles, updating apps, and wasting infrastructure and IT resources due to legacy app management processes. To tackle this, we unveiled our Apps Everywhere vision and shared many key updates to App Volumes and Apps on Demand, which is the technology behind Apps Everywhere. These announcements include persistent VDI beta support and upcoming general availability support for Azure Virtual Desktop RemoteApp streaming and Amazon AppStream 2.0. For more details, take a look at the App Volumes Explore sessions!

2. Deliver a great employee experience with DEX for Horizon

Digital employee experience (DEX) is top of mind for customers as IT teams are continually trying to provide great support to their end users. Happy employees = happy company. 😊 However, it can be difficult for VDI admins to understand how exactly their technology solution is performing. Horizon administrators can be challenged with inefficient incident detection and remediation, lack of visibility, and the pressure to improve employee experience. To tackle these, the perfect solution is DEX for Horizon. DEX for Horizon includes Workspace ONE Intelligence for Horizon, DEEM (Digital Employee Experience Management) for Horizon, and Workspace ONE Assist for Horizon. Together, these products solve important use cases that improve employee experience with license optimization, network performance, OS stability, and more. Watch how to help drive a positive employee experience in the “Help, My VDI Is Slow – Boost Productivity with Digital Employee Experience for Horizon [EUSB1227LV]” breakout session.

3. Horizon has all the options with hybrid and multi-cloud

It’s 2023. We live in a hybrid and multi-cloud world. VMware Horizon is providing customers with all kinds of options and helping to navigate what type of deployment is best for them. We have partnered with hyperscalers — such as Google, Microsoft, and Amazon — to deliver VDI in the cloud and/or on prem. We held a panel discussion with Microsoft about trends and adoption of VDI and DaaS in the “Horizon DaaS and Microsoft Virtualization Solutions: The Path to the Cloud [EUSB2734LV]” session, available for streaming online.

4. Level up your legacy VDI and app platform with VMware Horizon

Let’s say you’re a customer on a legacy VDI and app platform, but you’re not exactly happy with it. Need a modern fix? VMware Horizon is the next move. There are lots of reasons to shift to Horizon, like consolidating virtualization vendors, integration with VMware platforms like vSphere, and automation. Check out this breakout session to learn why moving to a VDI platform like Horizon makes sense. You’ll hear about a customer success story from a British car manufacturer that uses VMware Horizon to embrace the digital workspace, simplify app and image management, leverage hybrid cloud, and improve security and compliance. VMware Horizon has it all in the virtual desktop and app world.

5. Get VDI expert help with Horizon Accelerator

Not all customers have employees with VDI management skills. And due to talent shortage, that may not change. This is where VMware Horizon Accelerator comes in. It’s a solution aimed at streamlining and enhancing Horizon deployments with VDI experts and dashboard analytics. Read this “Simplify and Optimize VMware Horizon Deployments with Horizon Accelerator” blog for more in-depth reasons about how Horizon Accelerator can help with Day 0–2 VDI lifecycle services like capacity planning, patches and upgrades, and reporting.
