VMware User Environment Manager 9.3 is now available to download. This latest release improves integration with VMware Horizon 7 and VMware App Volumes.
Let’s review the main features.
4 New User Environment Manager Features
1. Outlook Data File Storage Using App Volumes
User Environment Manager 9.3 introduces an exciting new feature: Support for Microsoft Outlook data files on an App Volumes Writable Volumes.
More and more organizations are adopting a nonpersistent virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and enjoying benefits such as reduced storage requirements and simplified desktop management.
However, in nonpersistent environments, another challenge remains: How to manage Outlook offline storage table (OST) files. Using Outlook in online mode can impact user performance due to network latency or bandwidth constraints. Using Outlook in cached mode produces the same result. Because the OST file is discarded whenever desktops are refreshed or recovered, every time a user logs in to a new desktop, Outlook must recreate the OST file. Depending on the OST file size, this can significantly impact Outlook load times.
This innovative OST feature combines Horizon 7, App Volumes and User Environment Manager to solve this issue with nonpersistent VDI. IT can now configure App Volumes settings within User Environment Manager.

2. Integration with Horizon VMware Logon Monitor Service
User Environment Manager continues to improve Horizon 7 integration with the VMware Logon Monitor service (VMLM) feature. VMLM collects and logs information during the login process to the following file:
C:\ProgramData\VMware\VMware Logon Monitor\Logs\vmlm.txt
Both App Volumes and User Environment Manager add events to this log file, providing a comprehensive log file for events that occur during login to Horizon 7 desktops.
3. Support for Windows 10, Version 1709
In addition, User Environment Manager 9.3 adds support for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (build 1709).
4. Enhancements to Documentation
The User Environment Manager administration guide contains a new troubleshooting section that describes how to navigate FlexEngine logs, and provides solutions for common troubleshooting issues.
