We’re pleased to report that GigaOm, a global provider of technology industry insights and analysis, has recognized VMware as a Leader and an Outperformer in the GigaOm Radar for Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity as a Service. VMware was the only vendor to be named an Outperformer this year, which is a testament to VMware’s leading position in this space. Click here to download the full report.
A Comprehensive Ransomware Recovery Solution
In its assessment of the vendors, GigaOm highlighted VMware’s new ransomware recovery solution.
It noted: “A recent addition to the DRaaS service is a comprehensive ransomware recovery (VMware Ransomware Recovery for VMware Cloud DR), with a full cloud-based recovery and validation workflow. The workflow simplifies identification of the best recovery point by measuring the level of entropy at each point. Encrypted files have higher average entropy than their unencrypted equivalent. The recovered VMs have configurable network isolation until they are trusted for promotion to production. The trust is established using VMware’s Carbon Black product to analyze the recovered VMs and determine whether ransomware is still active, which would mean an earlier recovery point should be used.”
DR/BCaaS Evaluation Criteria
The report evaluates key DR/BCaaS vendors on a variety of criteria, including:
- Changed block tracking
- Multiple-destination support
- Sandbox testing
- Advanced ransomware response
- Advanced reporting
- Advanced failover orchestration
- Failback
VMware received a triple-plus score – the highest evaluation possible – for most of the criteria above, including sandbox testing, advanced ransomware response, advanced failover orchestration and failback.
