Nokia becomes the first network equipment provider (NEP) to certify all 5G core network functions on VMware’s Telco Cloud Platform.
Communication service providers (CSPs) have been on the sidelines for years watching cloud-native enterprises swerve in and out of opportunities like Olympic slalom skiers.
Seeing this agility, CSPs are now reconsidering their approach to network architectures and are turning to the cloud to thrive in the digital era and compete against companies that move at the speed of software. The industry at large set a destination to become cloud-native, where 5G networks are not only highly performant, but agile and automated.
Here at VMware, we’re dedicated to these convictions. We appreciate that with 5G, CSPs are demanding more choice and more flexibility. They’re not only looking for the agility of cloud-native operations but the flexibility of multi-vendor and multi-cloud environments, as well. The VMware Ready for Telco Cloud program enables this multi-vendor/multi-cloud/cloud-native journey.
The Ready for Telco Cloud program delivers interoperability validation with public certifications while providing a set of automation artifacts that could allow CSPs to deploy network functions and build services in hours instead of weeks. With this program, CSPs can leverage new independent software vendors (ISVs) while continuing to work with their favorite network equipment providers (NEPs) such as Nokia.
Today, Nokia becomes the first network equipment provider (NEP) to certify all 5G core network functions on VMware Telco Cloud Platform.
Nokia and VMware previously announced the establishment of a dedicated advanced certification lab to accelerate certification of Nokia’s portfolio of network functions on VMware Telco Cloud Platform. Today, nine Nokia software applications are now interoperable with VMware Telco Cloud Platform, including Nokia Registers, Nokia Cloud Mobile Gateway, Nokia Cloud Mobility Manager and Nokia Cloud Signaling Director. These and all others can be found on VMware Solution Exchange.
Sanjay Uppal, senior vice president and general manager, Service Provider and Edge, VMware, said, “Through the VMware Ready for Telco Cloud certification program, we have certified more than 200 VNFs and CNFs from multiple vendors on Telco Cloud Platform. Nokia has been one of our most active partners and our continued partnership enables us to serve customers in an accelerated fashion. We will continue to align our companies’ product roadmaps to help our mutual customers modernize their network and monetize 5G services faster and more efficiently.”
An important milestone, this won’t be the end of the Nokia and VMware partnership. We look forward to working together with Nokia to advance cloud-native networks and alter the future of communications.
