Cloud strategies have transformed dramatically thanks to a rapid rise in multi-cloud adoption, which offers organizations the flexibility to partition their workloads between public cloud, private cloud, and on-prem infrastructure while reducing long-term IT costs.
According to the IDC MarketScape, “For many enterprises, devising and implementing a hybrid IT strategy will be overwhelming, given limited resources and skills coupled with tight IT budgets.” VMware helps customers alleviate this “cloud chaos” through our VMware Multi-Cloud Adoption Framework and Professional Services offerings. VMware was recently named a Leader, in the IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Hybrid IT Consulting and Integration Services 2023 Vendor Assessment (doc #US50498923, March 2023).
The IDC MarketScape vendor analysis model is designed to provide an overview of the competitive fitness of ICT suppliers in a given market. The research methodology utilizes a rigorous scoring methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative criteria that results in a single graphical illustration of each vendor’s position within a given market. The Capabilities score measures vendor product, go-to-market and business execution in the short-term. The Strategy score measures alignment of vendor strategies with customer requirements in a 3-5-year timeframe. Vendor market share is represented by the size of the icons.
The IDC MarketScape report noted, “VMware understands that its customers are challenged with building, deploying, and managing complex hybrid and Multi-Cloud architectures in support of their digital journeys. It has developed its Multi-Cloud Adoption Framework that helps enterprises plan, build, and deploy applications and workloads across public, private, collocated, and traditional IT infrastructure.”
However, implementing a hybrid model introduces many challenges to infrastructure management, including increased operational complexity and cloud security risks, which can reduce the likelihood of successful adoption for enterprises. The process can be formidable for IT teams with limited skills and budgets, so it’s often helpful to work with a consulting partner to navigate the journey.
Scaling business agility
VMware Professional Services’ ability to help customers improve business agility was cited as a strength. Our strategic multi-cloud approach helps customers devise and implement a hybrid IT strategy while keeping business, operational, and technology requirements top of mind — a critical consideration for the 58% of IDC’s Worldwide Hybrid IT Infrastructure Consulting and Integration End User Survey, 2023 respondents who said they desired greater alignment of their infrastructure to business priorities.
Reimagining processes and operational success
Nearly 25% of survey respondents also said they required professional services to streamline operational efficiency — the top concern among enterprise customers who engaged a consulting partner – because their internal resources and skills were limited by design.
The IDC MarketScape report noted, “Leveraging best practices and defined methodologies, VMware helps customers develop and execute a hybrid IT strategy while considering business, technology, and operational requirements and outcomes. The framework examines a customer’s capabilities and weaknesses across multiple dimensions and helps customers solve for specific gaps that may inhibit success as well as highlight tools and processes to accelerate the journey. These dimensions include people, processes, tools, governance, operations, compliance and enablement of IT teams; as well as infrastructure, data and platforms, applications, developer capabilities; security controls. Once assessments are conducted, and analysis is completed, a series of consulting workshops help define a strategy and execution plan with measurable KPIs and milestones along the way.”
One VMware customer quoted in the report said it best: “They have capabilities that helped us to improve processes; they were professional and solved problems that arose throughout the project.”
Building comprehensive monitoring, management, and visibility
The IDC MarketScape also noted, “Study respondents felt positively about VMware’s consulting and integration capabilities; specifically, its ability to help them improve business agility through the adoption of a hybrid IT/Multi-Cloud deployment models. In addition, they felt VMware helped improve management and monitoring as well as visibility across their hybrid IT infrastructure.”
Consistent management and monitoring also helps organizations avoid unanticipated cloud expenses, which can accumulate quickly and are common among enterprises that do not work with a consulting service provider. The IDC MarketScape noted that companies should consider VMware when, “You require a partner with strong technical expertise involving very complex operational environments.”
