VMware Aria Automation April (8.12.0) Release

Drum Roll…please!

It is official now, the future of cloud management is here.

We are introducing the New VMware Aria Family Name!

Starting with this release, all Aria Automation Cloud services are grouped under a single parent service, “VMware Aria Automation.” Depending on the user license and role, you will see “Assembler,” “Service Broker,” “Pipelines,” and “Config” as a family of services under “VMware Aria Automation.” The new landing page also explains the details of this new structure and a new service switch. This new update provides a much simpler interface and more unified service to our customers. Now, all the components of VMware Aria Automation can be accessed on the same page!

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines an aria as “an accompanied, elaborate melody sung (as in an opera) by a single voice.” VMware Aria – a single cloud management solution – is the voice that promises to remove multi-cloud complexity that manifests itself as so much “noise” and restore melodious, harmonious cloud operations back to our customers.

Plugin-based resources for Aria Automation Assembler

As workloads migrate to the public cloud, developers and vSphere admins explore new ways to modernize their applications. As a result, customers need a multi-cloud platform that reveals the entire range of capabilities for the underlying provider. The plugin-based resources for Aria Automation Assembler not only expose the full range of features offered by the cloud providers, but they also offer reliable governance and extensibility mechanisms. Integration for Azure and GCP will come in later releases, but AWS support is now available. From a customer perspective, the plugin accelerates time to value and agile delivery of all public cloud components. The release of the plugin-based resources for Aria Automation Assembler is the first in a long line of features that will enable users to manage public cloud assets more effectively.

The ability to display version history for content sources in Custom forms

Custom forms in VMware Aria Automation Service Broker now have version history for all types of content sources such as Aria Operation workflows, AWS CFT, templates, XaaS, etc. The custom form author can: create a specific version of the form in order to be able to use it for a specific content source item and review a list of all versions of my custom forms; restore to a previous version of the form in order to be able to use it for a specific content source item; and create a new version of the custom form based on the latest custom form version.

This will allow our customers to create individual custom forms for different released versions of an Aria Automation Template. This feature saves time and effort, making the process much more efficient.

Ability to run Custom Actions and Out Of Box Day2 Actions in parallel

With vRA7, the user interface allowed multiple operations to be entered prior to submission. All operations would then be handled as one request but with vRA8, each operation must be entered and submitted manually and in serial. It is not possible to enter another operation until the first is completed. Imagine the user experience of adding an additional 10 disks to a VM, particularly if approvals are required, as each operation will need a separate approval. This capability will support custom actions and out of box actions running on the same resource or deployment; increasing the efficiency and making it less time-consuming.
