Announcing VMware Aria Automation November 2023 / 8.14.1 Release

Hello everyone!

The week of November 6-11 was truly exhilarating as we hosted another successful VMware Explore event in Barcelona. Over 9,000 customers, partners, and VMware enthusiasts joined us at the Fira Gran Via. Please check out this program guide to see how VMware Aria Automation helps customers reduce their carbon emissions, acts as the control plane to manage customers’ multi-cloud environment, and empowers developers’ experience.

In this November 2023 release, we’re thrilled to announce that we have extended the plug-in based framework now to support Azure-based cloud resources within VMware Aria Automation Templates to provision compute, networks, disks, storage accounts, and SQL database Azure resources. Using the plug-in-based Architecture template elements allows customers to easily access and consume public cloud resources and their properties precisely as the vendor defines.

With this release, VMware Aria Automation now supports all three major public cloud providers: AWS, GCP, and Azure. We will continue to support more plug-in-based resource types in our future monthly release.

Another important feature I want to highlight is VMware Aria Automation for Secure Hosts now provides vulnerability Pre and Post Remediation Actions.

Users can now employ Salt state files within the file manager to specify a pre-state before initiating vulnerability fixes. Additionally, an optional post-state can be set for actions following the completion of remediation. This enhancement saves IT admins time by automating pre-post remediation tasks.

In addition to those highlighted new features, we provide enhancements to improve users’ holistic experience in VMware Aria Automation.

Additional warning for Resize day 2 action.

Resize day 2 action now has a warning to highlight that if hot-add is not enabled on vCenter, the machine will be rebooted and out of service during the time of reboot. When hot-add is enabled, users can choose whether to reboot or not with the resize action, with “not reboot” as the default option. This feature brings more awareness when customers take resize day 2 action.

Support on-prem SCM (GitLab Enterprise) in VMware Aria Automation (SaaS).

This feature enables administrators to configure GitLab enterprise as an endpoint for repo. VMware Aria Automation Templates, Terraform scripts, and ABX services can be imported from GitLab enterprise. With this service extension to VMware Aria Automation (SaaS), customers can use it both in on-prem and SaaS environments.

Support OVF properties for OVFs in vCenter Content Library.

Providing OVF properties for OVF/OVA images stored in vCenter content library are now supported in VMware Aria Automation Templates using the ‘ovfProperties:’ property, which is available within the vSphere Machine element. OVF/OVA templates created on the vSphere cluster or stored in the vCenter content library are shown in image mappings within VMware Aria Automation Assembler.

Infoblox IPAM Plug-in Improvements.

Version 1.5.1 of the VMware Infoblox plugin for VMware Aria Automation introduces several improvements, such as improving user experience, removing false positive outcomes, and adding better security with the use of OpenSSL 3.0.x, Photon 4.x and Python 3.10.11 as the ABX runtime.

Please make sure to refer to the release notes for more details on the VMware Infoblox plugin 1.5.1 and its requirements before upgrading your Infoblox plug-in.
