What’s Behind the Numbers? Customers, Innovation and Partners

I’ve never experienced such rapid growth in my seven years at VMware since the early days of vSphere as I have with VMware Cloud Management. We’ve tripled the customer base since 2012 and are on track to double the number of cloud management partners this year! However, you’ve all heard the saying that numbers don’t tell the whole story and that’s why I’d like to share the story behind the story of our explosive customer and partner growth.

It starts with customers like Intracom, Apollo Group, Orange, Columbia and Symantec. They’ve benefited from a new way of doing management – one that is better suited for the dynamic, complex nature of the cloud. But, don’t take it from me. Take it from Dow Jones. Like many organizations, Dow Jones lacked integration of their multiple infrastructure tools and struggled with manual, time consuming processes. Amazingly, they were able to implement VMware vCloud Automation Center in just 60 days and cut service provisioning times from days to minutes. Or take Subaru, who created an entire hybrid cloud model with the help of vCenter Operations Management Suite (vC Ops) and increased efficiency, agility and control in their cloud environment.

Why are organizations adopting management at such a fast pace? It comes down to the new approach to management and continued focus on innovation. According to Bernd Harzog from The Virtualization Practice, “Traditional solutions are not going to be the foundations upon which the management stacks for virtualized data centers, the SDDC, and hybrid clouds will be built. Rather, a new ecosystem of management vendors is going to emerge with VMware currently best positioned to lead.”

As you may have seen in Tuesday’s General Session, we’ve continued our innovation in cloud management. As the session highlighted, customers can now benefit from technology advancements in log analytics, automated provisioning across hypervisors and clouds, and application blueprints deployed on any infrastructure platform. If you missed the General Session, you can view the demo on VMworld TV. VMworld attendees can also get 5 free Log Insight licenses when they follow us @VMLogInsight.

Why are partners adding VMware Cloud Management to their portfolio of products and services? The answer is a combination of customer demand and new business revenues. The good news is partners who have built businesses around VMware Cloud Management have been able to more than double their management business year-over-year. Take Technology Integration Group (TIG), for example: Their secret sauce is to lead with discovery services and build the trusted advisor relationship. This 1-2 approach proved very successful with a large life science company, where a health check uncovered a significant vSphere with Operations Management opportunity.
