Empower Your Cloud Financial Management with Anomaly Reports: Save and Subscribe for Smarter Control

At VMware Tanzu CloudHealth, our commitment to refine and enrich our platform capabilities remains unwavering. One of our frequently used features, Anomaly Detection, has been receiving some great feedback. Considering the valuable input from our users and staying in sync with the dynamic shifts in industry trends, we’re excited to talk about another advancement: the improved capability to Save and Subscribe to anomalous cost spends.

Introducing Anomaly Reports

In the ever-changing landscape of cloud management, anomalies can emerge unexpectedly, disrupting not only your budget but also your operational efficiency. We fully grasp the importance of staying ahead with proactive anomaly management, and today, we are thrilled to unveil a transformative feature – Anomaly Reports. This meticulously crafted feature is aimed at providing a holistic anomaly detection experience. It guarantees swift access to abnormal spending, minimizing the time it takes to identify such instances. Moreover, it empowers you, our esteemed users, with increased authority over your cloud expenses. Let us delve into this enhancement that brings automated insights directly to your grasp.

The Power of Anomaly Reports

Effortlessly be alerted to new anomaly data whenever it occurs, enabling better trend analysis and seamless sharing of insights within your team.

With the most recent update, the Anomaly Detection Save and Subscribe feature introduces the capability for users to preserve specific filters and opt for subscribing to Anomaly Reports. This functionality empowers users to retain essential anomaly data configurations and receive notifications whenever anomalies arise.

The introduction of Save and Subscribe has multiple benefits for the end user:

  • Users can generate customized reports designed for individual regions, accounts, or services.
  • Users have the option to set a scheduled time for report execution. This feature enables them to automatically receive the most up-to-date anomaly details in their inbox at the designated time.
  • Users can effortlessly send automated updates to a defined set of team members or stakeholders on a scheduled basis, ensuring smooth communication.

Use Case Scenario

Imagine you’re a cloud manager, overseeing multiple portfolios, accounts, regions and services. You’ve been noticing frequent anomalies in a specific region but varied services. Manually checking for these anomalies every day becomes a time-consuming task, taking you away from other critical activities.

Amidst this challenge, the Anomaly Detection Save and Subscribe feature comes to your rescue! Recognizing its potential, you opt to harness the Anomaly Reports functionality to streamline your workflow. In just a few clicks, you effortlessly set up and save the Anomaly Reports.

Next you choose to subscribe to the saved reports associated with anomalies within that specific region and service. The result? You’re now ready to receive prompt notifications in your mailbox each time an anomaly emerges with the added advantage of sharing the details with your team members at the same time. This not just saves you a lot of time but brings a sense of ownership and accountability that can be maintained throughout the portfolio.

Let’s understand this better with the below example between you (a cloud manager) and Jane (your coworker on the FinOps team):

You: “We’ve been observing frequent anomalies in our XYZ AWS region, Jane. It’s becoming quite a task to check for them every day.”

Jane: “I agree, the manual checking is taking up a lot of our time. Is there a way to automate this process?”

You: “Actually, yes. I’ve been exploring VMware Tanzu Cloudhealth Anomaly Reports feature. It allows us to configure the system to save and subscribe to reports for anomalies in the XYZ region and that ABC service.”

Jane: “That sounds like a time-saver. How does it work?”

You: “It’s quite simple. Once configured, the system will automatically generate and save the anomaly reports. And the best part is, we can receive notifications about these anomalies on the very day they are detected. It keeps us in the loop without the need for manual checks.”

Jane: “That’s a game-changer. Let’s set it up right away.”

You: Sure, let me help you set it up. It’s just a three-step process.

Step 1: Go to the Anomaly Detection feature and select the required filters

Let us consider the above example and apply the filter to select XYZ region and ABC service.

Step 2: Save the report

Click on the ’Save As’ button and give the requested details like name, description and the access privilege.

Step 3: Open the report

Go to the Saved Report and click on the desired report.

Step 4: Subscribe

Click on the Subscribe -> New Subscription and fill in the required details like Subscription Name, frequency, recipient etc. and you are all set to receive the anomaly alerts in your mailbox.
