The year 2022 was full of incredible advancements and announcements – including VMware Aria!
If you missed it, VMware Aria is a multi-cloud management portfolio that provides a set of end-to-end solutions for managing the cost, performance, configuration, and delivery of infrastructure and applications that was introduced at VMware Explore 2022.
And as a reminder, with the introduction of VMware Aria, we are now VMware Aria Cost powered by CloudHealth (formerly CloudHealth).
The past year has included many product updates for VMware Aria Cost powered by CloudHealth – including a total of over 95+ updates! See below for some highlights:
Anomaly Detection
The VMware Aria Cost team was excited to announce the release of Anomaly Detection, available for AWS, Azure, and GCP environments. This feature identifies an unusual change in spend and provides you with ownership to analyze and act on unwanted changes – helping cloud adoption become more cost-effective.
Anomaly Detection is supported by FlexOrgs to ensure the right access for the right users and enabled by FlexReports to perform root cause analysis and understand usage and resources contributing to the anomaly. VMware Aria Cost policies can be utilized to create condition-based alerts and notifications that make timely information available for the right stakeholders.
New EC2 and RDS Rightsizing Engine
In November, the VMware Aria Cost powered by CloudHealth team released the new EC2 and RDS rightsizing feature. Built on a more robust engine, the new feature generates recommendations in seconds, and offers up to 3 recommendations for each instance. Complete with a new user interface, our new rightsizing feature delivers cost and savings summaries, customizable efficiency targets for resource utilization, upsizing recommendations, and the ability to drill down into each instance to view usage.
Commitment Discounts: Azure Recommendations
The availability of Azure Commitment Discount Recommendations, which provides recommendations for all reservable Azure services, was highly anticipated by our team. This new feature offers insight into costs and reveals potential savings for reservable services, as well as sortable columns and the ability to view usage metrics for each recommendation. Recommendations are pulled into the platform through Microsoft’s Usage Details API, and data from the commitment-based discounts is available via a GraphQL API.
Kubernetes Resource Usage
The team was pleased to announce the availability of Kubernetes resource usage metrics in our Kubernetes Resources and Kubernetes Allocation reports in October 2022. These new metrics give you visibility into Kubernetes cluster consumption across different teams, organizations, and lines of business. The metrics show you which Kubernetes clusters are good candidates for optimization, and which teams are setting appropriate resource requests and limits.
Enhancements to Partner Billing Capabilities
We continued to focus on making VMware Aria Cost powered by CloudHealth scalable, efficient, and easy to use by enhancing our partner billing capabilities. In 2022, we rolled out a new user interface for partner billing rules in GCP, as well as added additional flexibility for partner billing rules in Azure. Another major focus within partner billing was Custom Price Books, which now support a higher throttle limit for executing dry runs (up to 4,000 requests per hour!) as well as the ability to upload dry run results to an S3 bucket that you specify. We also released tax filters for GCP and AWS, which let you decide whether to filter out tax line items in your final customer bills.
