Phishing is a significant threat to organizations, and mobile devices require advanced protection – whether they’re corporate owned or BYOD. Today we announce the general availability (GA) of VMware Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense integrated phishing and content protection.
Since the launch of Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense last year, we’ve seen an increase in mobile phishing. According to the 2023 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report, phishing is one of the top three ways attackers infiltrate organizations. At the 2023 RSA Conference, we announced the upcoming GA of our solution to protect against phishing more effectively with Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense integrated phishing and content protection.
As organizations and employees adopt increased mobility and flexible working policies, mobile devices are becoming more crucial to business operations and improved productivity. However, this comes with increased challenges and complexity when trying to secure these devices. Phishing poses unique challenges on mobile as it can extend beyond traditional emails and websites to exploit SMS, messaging apps, and even QR codes. Phishing attacks trick users into revealing login credentials or compromising privacy, and these breaches could lead to data and financial losses for enterprises.
Protect your organization from targeted phishing attacks with Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense
Publicly available information and turnkey phishing toolkits available on the dark web make it easy for threat actors to target large populations of employees via phishing attacks. For organizations looking to protect their mobile devices and environments from these threats, Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense integrated phishing and content protection is a comprehensive security solution that addresses email, SMS, messaging, and social media-based threats on iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices. Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense detects attempts to load phishing and malicious web content from applications — and background activities on the device — and blocks the content accordingly. This is done by integrating with the Workspace ONE Tunnel application, which sends the URLs that the device attempts to load to the Lookout Security Graph for advanced analysis. This feature leverages real-time intelligence, machine learning algorithms, and a comprehensive database of known phishing URLs.
An administrator can configure policies to allow or deny specific domains and types of content based on their organization’s needs. When users are prevented from accessing malicious or denied content, they are notified and can see the reason for the blocking of content, with no intervention or action required by IT or security personnel.
Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense takes a privacy-centric approach to delivering security. No user content is monitored or inspected, and identified malicious or phishing domains can be configured to be visible or invisible to the administrator.
Enjoy seamless device protection with Mobile Threat Defense and Workspace ONE Tunnel
Protecting mobile devices from phishing and malicious content should not come at the expense of providing secure access to corporate resources. For organizations that require VPN or secure remote access to corporate resources from mobile devices, Workspace ONE Tunnel is a modern remote access solution that facilitates zero trust network access (ZTNA). Mobile Threat Defense phishing and content protection works in tandem with Workspace ONE Tunnel on the device, preventing malicious content from being loaded while applying device traffic rules and policies. Leveraging Workspace ONE Tunnel for VPN requires the tunnel service configured with a VMware Unified Access Gateway or the hosted ZTNA solution: VMware Secure Access.
