Today at the 2023 RSA Conference, the VMware End-User Computing (EUC) team is announcing innovations that will better enable organizations to secure hybrid work by:
- Protecting against mobile threats
- Securing applications on unmanaged devices
- Managing patches with Windows OS updates
Protect from phishing and mobile threats with Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense
Mobile phishing attacks continue to skyrocket. According to the Lookout Mobile Phishing Report, more than 50% of personal devices were exposed to a mobile phishing attack in 2022, alone.
VMware Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense addresses the risk of threat actors sidestepping security controls — including corporate profiles on personal devices — by integrating phishing and content protection with the Workspace ONE platform. With Mobile Threat Defense, customers will be able to protect against potential phishing activity across email, SMS, general web content, and messaging and social apps.
Phishing and content protection is applied to all traffic, both external and internal, using a unique integration with Workspace ONE Tunnel. The conflict between phishing and content protection solutions and VPNs is eliminated by consolidating the secure access within Tunnel with phishing and content protection capabilities.
Workspace ONE Mobile Threat Defense also protects against application, device, and rogue network originated threats. The Workspace ONE platform provides reporting and automated response and remediation actions when threats are detected, improving situational awareness for security teams and shrinking the time needed to respond and remediate.
Secure application connectivity from unmanaged devices with Workspace ONE Tunnel
When employees have the flexibility to work from any location on any device, IT teams must balance securing apps and data ubiquitously across any user, anywhere — while keeping access seamless. VMware Workspace ONE Tunnel will enable secure access without device management on iOS and Linux, in addition to Android, macOS, and Windows.
Organizations can start the journey to Zero Trust security on unmanaged devices by utilizing Workspace ONE Tunnel to limit access to specific applications as opposed to exposing full networks; layering on additional authentication leveraging MFA with SAML 2.0; and gaining additional insights via Workspace ONE Intelligence. Workspace ONE Tunnel for unmanaged devices is included in most Workspace ONE editions.
Workspace ONE Tunnel simplifies the experience for end users and administrators while improving security posture. End users can simply use the applications they need, without worrying about launching a separate secure connection. Admins can monitor and manage access in the Workspace ONE Cloud, gaining key context around applications used and sites and services accessed.
Patch management with Windows OS updates
Patch management is fundamental to endpoint security. Today, VMware continues to accelerate the cloud-native patch management capabilities of Workspace ONE, which allows Windows OS updates to be delivered to PCs anywhere on or off company networks. One new feature is an updated data-driven user interface that dynamically updates patch management controls independent of console releases. Another offers new device query and sampling capabilities via Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub, which facilitates direct data collection and evaluation to inform update plans. Combined with the platform’s new Freestyle Orchestrator capabilities, Workspace ONE can assess vulnerability exposure data from third-party sources and deliver the needed changes. This eases the management burden of IT teams while allowing organizations to quickly reach high levels of patch compliance and a self-secured Windows device footprint.
