Q3 Updates – What’s New with VMware Virtual Workspace for Healthcare

We are excited to announce the best Horizon release yet: VMware Horizon 7 version 7.10 (ten) with Horizon client 5.2. This release is a new Extended Service Branch (ESB), with additional features not available in earlier ESB’s. As part of this Horizon release, we are also making available the highly anticipated VMware Horizon Deployment Guide for Healthcare (available to customers on VMware Tech Zone).

What’s New in VMware Horizon 7 version 7.10 & Horizon Clients 5.2

The 7.10 release of VMware Horizon 7 includes new features and enhancements to Horizon platform, the Horizon HTML5 Console, Horizon Agent and Blast enhancements, and VMware Horizon Client. Horizon 7.10 Extended Service Branch

Horizon 7.10 is an Extended Service Branch (ESB) release. This ESB release is comprised of the following feature/components: Horizon 7.10, App Volumes 2.18, Dynamic Environment Manager 9.9, UAG 3.7. The support of Horizon 7.10 on VMware products (e.g., vSphere, vSAN, etc.) can be found in the VMware product interoperability matrices.  Lastly, customers already on Horizon 7.5 ESB can immediately upgrade to 7.10 ESB.

Peripheral Validation Lab

In Q3, the EUC peripheral lab is completing validation of devices/peripherals for nested mode and RTAV use cases. In addition, based on your feedback, we will be adding client versions information to the published results.

The VMware Horizon Deployment Guide for Healthcare will be available on VMware Tech Zone – with general availability of Horizon 7.10. The purpose of this deployment guide is to help healthcare organizations create an application delivery strategy by understanding user requirements and how applications are consumed at the point of care, including information on VMware Horizon support with third party products.

EUC Healthcare session – Panel Discussion

A packed room of healthcare customers attended the EUC Healthcare session at VMworld. The main event was the panel discussion by IT leaders from Indiana University (IU) Health, Ochsner Health System, Vitas Healthcare, and Impact Advisors. This interactive discussion covered key IT challenges in healthcare and employee experience, and discussed how VMware played a critical role in the panelists’ healthcare organizations.

Furthermore, Chris Poyner, Principle Technical Architect from Sentara Healthcare, led the recorded breakout session: Case Study: Making it Epic – A Journey to Success (ADV1227BU). In this session, Chris shared his experience, lessons learned, and how his organization worked closely with VMware to migrate from Citrix XenDesktop/XenApp to VMware Horizon to deliver Epic EMR.

Lastly, we were delighted to have over 100 customers join us for the VMworld Healthcare Breakout Session featuring Vitas Healthcare and Ochsner Health System.
