Last week VMware was named the market share leader in Enterprise Mobility Management in the new IDC report, “Worldwide Enterprise Mobility Management Software Market Shares, 2018: A Market Transitioning to Unified Endpoint Management.” VMware Workspace ONE, which provides an integrated platform to manage any application on any device, continues to outpace the growth of the overall market.
Back in 2014, VMware acquired AirWatch, one of the leading original vendors the MDM market. Since the acquisition, VMware has made tremendous investments to integrate the AirWatch technology with VMware Horizon VDI and published apps and VMware Identity Manager identity and access management into a single, integrated digital workspace platform called Workspace ONE. To wit, IDC describes this trend:
Enterprise mobility management (EMM) vendors positioned their wares as unified endpoint management (UEM) tools, enterprise workspace components, security-focused mobile protection solutions, and specialized endpoint device management tools.
VMware has been a leader in management of iOS and Android devices since the beginning of the market in the salad days of AirWatch. This heritage of mobile leadership continues to this day as we are seeing on of the fastest platform adoptions with Android Enterprise activations.
More recently, VMware has built on its MDM/EMM tradition to enable true modern management from the cloud for Windows 10 PCs, enabling modern onboarding, configuration, updates, software distribution, security, and more. This leadership was recently highlighted at Dell Technology World, where Microsoft announced that Workspace ONE would be recognized as a supported ConfigMgr (SCCM) co-existence partner for Windows 10 modern management.
Workspace ONE provides similar complete lifecycle support for macOS as well, including the recent release of our Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub employee experience app for macOS that enables access to any application including virtualized Windows apps. Customers can get away from legacy imaging-based onboarding with DEP support and bootstrap packages and leverage a lower cost management model leveraging mobile techniques.
Workspace ONE also supports management of Rugged devices used for mission critical operations in factories, warehouses, retail stores, etc. In fact we recently announced a new Workspace ONE partnership with Honeywell, a leading vendor of rugged devices. Rugged devices are increasingly moving to Android Enterprise as the base OS, but there are special requirements to rugged use cases that customers demand. As such, Workspace ONE includes features specific to rugged use cases such as remote control, battery monitoring, and many automated actions aimed at keeping these devices up and running.
As EMM continues to evolve into UEM and digital workspaces, VMware will continue to enhance Workspace ONE to support new and emerging use cases, platforms, and form factors for our customers and endeavor to continue our market leadership.
