Introducing Intelligent Hub for macOS version 19.04

VMware is excited to announce availability of our newest release of Workspace ONE Intelligent Hub for macOS.  With the latest release, Mac deployments are simplified for administrators and employees are provisioned self-service capabilities. In the process of these exciting updates, we decided to make it more delightful for employees with a completely refreshed user experience.

Simplify the Complex

In Brian Madden post about customers’ EUC plans, he sums up that enterprise IT has amassed HUGE complexity over the past 10-20 years.  As he mentions, the Workspace ONE platform is meant to support IT in wrangling that complex mess on behalf of their computing population. To that end, Intelligent Hub eliminates a lot of the confusing panels, buttons, and information from previous versions (Figure 1).

Unified App Catalog – Central to the Digital Workspace

The Unified App Catalog in Intelligent Hub app for macOS, is a central component helping IT bring simplicity to the employee’s digital workspace experience. By bringing the employee’s varied application portfolio (cloud apps, internal web apps, native store and non-store apps, and virtualized apps) into a single location, Intelligent Hub is the shining light in the Digital Workspace. Add in SSO with VMware Identity Manager supporting Intelligent Hub, the virtual and web apps launch and log in automatically.

With the Unified App Catalog in Intelligent Hub for macOS, it’s as easy as Click, Launch, Work!

A quick note on the Intelligent Hub app – an employee can get a list of all their favorite apps by right-clicking the Intelligent Hub dock icon all while Intelligent Hub is running in the background. (Figure 2). Employees don’t even need to open the Intelligent Hub app’s main window to gain access to their commonly used apps! It’s quick, convenient, and a great experience!

Intelligent Hub with Identity Services

In the latest version of Intelligent Hub, we’ve included functionality for the Home, People, and Notifications services in environments with Identity Manager integration.  Intelligent Hub now leverages Notifications to let users know when admins publish new apps to their catalog.   Employees can also access the People browser – An integrated corporate organization chart and directory (Figure 4). We’ve also included the Home functionality – allowing admins to integrate a company’s homepage within the Intelligent Hub app.

One More Thing

Many customers expressed a desire to interact with Workspace ONE UEM using a client-side command-line interface.   With this release, we’re releasing our first iteration of this functionality via hubcli (Figure 5).  Hubcli is bundled with the Intelligent Hub for macOS installer, and admins can leverage it for client-side configuration changes, Notifications, and more.   For more details I highly recommend reviewing the Workspace ONE UEM 1904 Technical Deep Dive.

TL;DR

In short, Intelligent Hub is now the single engagement point for the Digital Workspace for web, iOS, and macOS.
