Don’t Believe Everything You Hear: Workspace ONE Send + the Microsoft Apps Ecosystem Explained

Since we announced Workspace ONE Send back in May, we’ve received a number of questions about the solution from interested customers, partners, our social media community and more. In case you missed it, Workspace ONE Send supports joint customers using the Workspace ONE productivity apps in conjunction with Microsoft Office 365 apps managed by Intune. The app provides value for users by making it easy to send, share and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files from Workspace ONE apps like Boxer. The passing of files across ecosystems happens seamlessly and securely while respecting Intune DLP policies.

To clarify some of the confusion, let’s debunk the top five misconceptions around Workspace ONE Send and the Microsoft Office suite of apps.Workspace ONE Send

Myth 1: Workspace ONE Send is built with two SDKs, causing unreliable security and data leakage prevention (DLP).

False. The Workspace ONE Send app is built with the Microsoft Intune SDK. Workspace ONE Send fully utilizes the Intune SDK and incorporates a lightweight component of the Workspace ONE SDK to establish trust. This is a straightforward and clean design, ensuring that the Workspace ONE Send app does not perform any translation or deal with data loss prevention (DLP) conflicts. Other competitors in the industry, such as Citrix, have built apps with two different SDKs – these apps have two separate code paths making them difficult to maintain and potentially unreliable over time.

Myth 2: All Intune customers using Workspace ONE should use Workspace ONE Send.

False. Workspace ONE enables choice for customers and their end users. Office365 customers that want to leverage native email or Outlook mobile do not need the Send app. Only customers who want to leverage the Workspace ONE suite of secure productivity apps (such as Boxer, Browser or Content Locker) need the Send app to enable secure interoperability with Microsoft Office apps like Word, PowerPoint and Excel on their mobile devices.

Myth 3: Passing files across ecosystems is not as secure.

False. Workspace ONE files are securely transmitted across ecosystems, adhering to all security requirements of data in transit.

Myth 4: Using a mobile app to pass files between two management ecosystems provides a choppy experience for the user.

False. Workspace Send passes a file in just a few flips and does not require any additional steps for the user. When compared to other similar products on the market, Send offers fewer flips as the transfer happens, making it the fastest bridge application on the market today.

Myth 5: Workspace ONE Send is only available on iOS.

Fales. Workspace ONE Send is available on both iOS and Android.

Integrating our ecosystem of secure productivity apps with Microsoft’s world-class Office 365 apps empowers IT to deliver a more compelling, consistent and secure experience for opening, saving, editing and sharing files across Workspace ONE productivity apps and Office 365. With Workspace ONE Send it’s now easier for employees to work from apps like Word, PowerPoint, and Excel on Android and iOS devices, from anywhere.
