As the volume and variety of mobile devices in the enterprise expands, the use of application programming interfaces (APIs) to connect devices to the internet has increased tenfold. APIs, which enable third-party software systems to interact with applications, have revolutionized how companies across industries bring value to their business.
APIs help IT:
- Share information. APIs enable IT to create various integration points between systems and to allow information sharing in order to build innovative services and products tailored to specific use cases.
- Connect with customers. APIs simplify the process of creating engaging touch points via new channels. This makes it possible to collect specific information and use it as a feedback loop to fuel marketing or to influence distribution strategies.
VMware AirWatch APIs integration extends enterprise mobility management functionality to external programs and is an efficient, cost-effective alternative to building in-house applications. In AirWatch 9.2, we’ve improved AirWatch APIs usability and documentation by leveraging Swagger.
Swagger is a standard, language-agnostic interface to REST APIs, which allows both humans and computers to discover and understand capabilities of the service without access to source code, documentation or through network traffic inspection. Utilizing Swagger gives IT access to the world’s largest framework of API developer tools for OpenAPI Specification (OAS), enabling development across the entire API lifecycle, from design and documentation to test and deployment.
We are leveraging YAML, rather than JSON, due to its less verbose nature, allowing for easier digestion and utilization. You will see more consolidation of AirWatch APIs across the VMware suite hosted at the VMware {code} Workspace ONE Dev Center as our API set continues to mature and expand.
