Empowering the digital workspace

As we move into 2019, we thought we’d share a recap of some of the key announcements which support our strategic IT priorities. In this blog: the digital workspace.

These core pillars define our approach to the support we give our customers. Therefore we focus on supporting their digital transformation, from infrastructure through delivery and security to the end-user experience. In this post, we’re looking at empowering the digital workspace. Furthermore you can also read our other posts on modernizing the data center, integrating public cloud and transforming security.

Much of what we do is about building the foundation for digitization. Without datacenters, networking and cloud experiences, services and capabilities which make digital business so intuitive and supportive can’t be delivered.

Digital workspace is slightly different. Even more: it’s the end results. It is giving users the ability to work however, whenever and wherever they see fit, without compromising the enterprise. We’ve always had a big focus on End User Computing. With digital workspace, we’re helping enterprises connect all the different aspects that make up working in a large organization. So that they can empower and engage their workforces and, ultimately, deliver greater results.

The intelligence-driven digital workspace

One aspect of the digital workspace is how it simplifies the way employees can work. Back in March, we delivered that with the launch of what we called ‘the intelligence-driven digital workspace’: the evolution of VMware Workspace ONE to help organizations them make data driven decisions from a single truth, powered by visualization and automation tools. It was the first step to using AI and machine learning to make recommendations and predictions across the digital workspace. Removing the need for time-consuming decision-making from employees and giving back the ability to focus on doing their jobs productively.

Enterprise secure, consumer simple

This new VMware Workspace ONE wasn’t simply about making things simple. We all need to be able to operate in a completely secure environment. Even more at a time when threats have never been more numerous. The true digital workspace can deliver that without compromising access, agility or flexibility. For that reason we introduced a comprehensive, modern enterprise security approach to secure the evolving digital workspace: Workspace ONE Trust Network. It transforms security across employees, apps, endpoints and networks; by being able to protect, detect and counter cyber security threats based on a framework of trust and verification. It’s like a virtual bouncer – if your behaviour triggers a warning, it will block your access. If it doesn’t, you can work as you please.

Updating the innovations

A major new way to deliver digital workspaces and support the diversity and heterogeneity found across every organization operating today. That might have been enough for some people. For us, however, it wasn’t. Change is constant – the way businesses work, the way their employees want to work, is evolving every single day. For that reason we delivered new updates in November, from expanding how IT organizations manage and secure devices, clouds and platforms, to beefing up security with enhanced visibility, and improving user productivity.

Because that’s what it’s about – helping your employees work smarter. Atos’ James McMahon summarised why in a blog for us earlier in the year: “To be truly effective, employees should enjoy work, and employers should aspire to enable that enjoyment.” Putting some data behind it, our own research found that more than 80 per cent of CIOs in EMEA believe that revenue can increase by five per cent over three years when employees are ‘empowered’ or allowed to use the applications they want and need and make them readily accessible.

“A key differentiation point”

We know we’re delivering what customers want. But it’s fantastic when external validation supports that focus. A key part of digital workspace is how you manage end-points, the moments where user and technology connect. Barely a month ago, our approach to end point management was scored highest by IDC in its MarketScape: Worldwide Enterprise Mobility Management Software 2018 Vendor Assessment. In the assessment, the judges Workspace ONE’s ability to create specialized mobile apps and app integrations, managing Windows 10 and the platform’s Intelligence analytics package as key differentiation points – a fantastic way to close out the year.
