BDP International helps chemical producers, major enterprises, pharmaceutical companies, oil and gas suppliers and major retailers track their product shipments around the world. BDP also provides their customers with just-in-time logistics to ensure sensitive shipments get where they need to be in days by land, sea and air.
However, BDP’s IT organization realized they couldn’t provide that same responsiveness to their own customers, the company’s employees located across 130 countries. When IT failed to successfully deploy their critical BDP application suite to Google Apps, they took it as a wakeup call.
The company sought out a true enterprise, scalable solution for their virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and found it in VMware Horizon. The Horizon platform provides BDP with a suite of solutions to deliver a digital workspace.

VMware App Volumes lightens the workload for BDP’s IT team, allowing them to roll out more virtual desktops without needing to add storage.
“Our experience with App Volumes has been very solid,” said Jason Bullock, executive director of IT Global Infrastructure and Support at BDP International. “In fact, I didn’t quite believe the demo when I saw it, but we’ve been able to deploy a number of apps in minutes with this thing. It’s been phenomenal.”
Jason is also excited to enjoy a new level of flexibility with VMware Horizon Air. By delivering cloud-hosted virtual desktops from a single cloud control pane, he’ll no longer need to add infrastructure to the data center to scale his VDI. VMware’s public cloud will also help him improve performance for the company’s European VDI users.
“The idea that we can use Desktops-as-a-Service in the cloud, that, for IT directors, is a dream world,” he said.

Aside from the operational efficiencies IT will gain, the Horizon platform will ultimately help end users be more productive and the company progress their commitment to innovation.
“VMware was a neat opportunity to not only try out a technology that I had a lot of confidence in, but also a name change to show that we are progressing and moving away from what was then Citrix,” said Jason.
