VMware vSphere Update Manager 6.5 is now embedded into the vCenter Server Appliance

If you are responsible for keeping a VMware vSphere environment properly patched, you most likely use Update Manager to quickly and easily download patches from the Internet and apply them to your clusters according to baseline policies.vum-sidebar Until now, even environments that have adopted the vCenter Server Appliance (VCSA) still required a separate Windows VM for the Update Manager service. VUM in vSphere 6.5 is now completely integrated with the VCSA, ready to go right from the start!

The embedded Update Manager leverages the vPostgres database that is part of the VCSA deployment, so there’s nothing extra to install, configure, or tune.  And because embedded Update Manager does not require a separate VM with its own general purpose operating system, that’s one less element in your datacenter to patch and license!

I’m pleased let you know that we have just released a new Product Walkthrough (PWT) showcasing the new embedded VUM. PWTs are visual tours of select workflows in action, which you can click through at your own pace. In this PWT you will see how VUM is used to upgrade a cluster of VMware ESXi hosts.

This demonstration is also available as a full-featured demo video, check it out:

VMware vSphere 6.5 is a great upgrade for your datacenter and new benefits like embedded VUM make deployment and management of the infrastructure even easier!
