MWC News Roundup: Software Defined Edge Changes the Game in Barcelona

With over 101,000 people in attendance, MWC was a whirlwind of activity and excitement (and long lines for taxi cabs). VMware demonstrated lots of new innovations with our customers and partners at the show. Below is a quick recap.

Software Defined Edge – from core, to RAN and edge – is continuing to bring agility and enable new use cases for our customers and partners around the world.

Customer Deployments:

DISH Wireless optimized its 5G network with VMware Telco Cloud Service Assurance for real-time monitoring and automation. (See Release)
Vodafone partnered with VMware to optimize short-form video and improve RAN performance using network programmability. Watch the interview with Vodafone on the POC demonstrated at the show. (See Release)

Co-Innovation and Partnerships:

Collaboration with Singtel offers connectivity and cloud infrastructure through, the industry’s first all-in-one orchestration platform for 5G and edge cloud. (See Release)
Collaboration with SoftBank, NEC, and VMware validated the virtualization and modernization of the RAN by showcasing a vRAN system for improved efficiency in network operations. (See Release)
VMware showcased joint efforts with partners such as VIAVI Solutions’ Testbed as a Service (TBaaS), to create a Digital Twin for the evaluation and performance benchmarking of applications, and Aira Technologies’ RANGPT, that enables observability, analysis, control, and automation of the RAN using conversational language. VeloCloud is back! We’re embracing our roots and bringing back the VeloCloud name you know and love for our SD-WAN and SASE solutions. (Read blog)
Single-Vendor VMware VeloCloud SASE, secured by Symantec, was announced to help enterprises connect and secure the distributed edge. (See Release)
Service Management and Orchestration Framework, enabled by VMware RIC, has expanded including ecosystem partners Viavi Solutions and Aira Technologies and continues to make networks even smarter. (See Release)
