VMWARE@MWC2018 – Showcasing NFV Without Limits

Communications Service Providers (CSPs) today realize the need to transform their business models and build essential digital capabilities that accelerate their path to 5G networks.  The challenge, however, lies in abandoning incremental initiatives in favor of transformational innovation – innovation that requires them to focus more on agility and continuous learning rather than on traditional operating models, which become less reliable as technology-driven change continues to accelerate.

At Mobile World Congress 2018, VMware will be engaging in conversations around how VMware vCloud NFV can enable CSPs to transform their networks, accelerate to 5G, and become a digital service provider. We are demonstrating some exciting turnkey solutions and NFV use cases that give CSPs the ability to build a transformative architecture.  Through these leading-edge demos, you can learn about some of the work we’re doing with our partners and customers to help them derive additional value from their existing assets and competitive advantages.

NFV Service Assurance

As the growth in data consumption and the number of connected devices drive exponential capacity requirements and Communications Service Providers (CSPs) modernize their networks to offer differentiated services, the operations management approach needs to be a well curated design from the onset.  We will be demonstrating a comprehensive service assurance solution for a virtual EPC network built on the VMware vRealize Suite, a cloud management platform that delivers the industry’s most complete solution for managing a heterogeneous, hybrid cloud using automation workflows, real-time network intelligence, enhanced operational efficiency, reduced operational costs, and fast root-cause analysis and resolution.  We demonstrate the role service assurance plays across the entire telco operational lifecycle including service onboarding, performance monitoring, issues isolation, predictive optimization, and integrated business intelligence.

Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC)

Multi-access Edge Computing applies cloud architecture principles to compute, storage, and networking infrastructure at the network edge close to the user. By making MEC available across access networks, from LTE/5G to wired/wireless LANs, CSPs can enable next-gen applications such as 5G and IoT telemetry, mobile traffic shaping, location services, video analytics, AR/VR, and connected cars to leverage ultra-low latency high-bandwidth services and real-time access to network information.  This demo demonstrates how CSPs are uniquely positioned to drive adoption of such services at the network edge powered by vCloud NFV’s advanced automation capabilities, carrier-grade availability, performance, and service continuity.  The demo highlights the use of a distributed compute fabric at the edge using VMs and containers, including use cases such as video transcoding and differentiated VoLTE services.

Software Defined WAN (SD-WAN)

The addition of VeloCloud to VMware’s portfolio further strengthens the partnership opportunities between VMware and CSPs.  As CSPs transition from being connectivity providers to provide rich services where enterprises run their applications in hybrid cloud environments, SD-WAN provides them the ability to seamlessly, securely, and with near real-time response connect between the clouds.  We will be sharing a VeloCloud SD-WAN demo in our booth to showcase the solution’s simplicity and agility, how it addresses complex distributed network topologies, and how it seamlessly integrates with the rest of the VMware NFV portfolio.

VMware Pivotal Container Services (PKS) – a cloud-native framework for 5G services

PKS provides one of the fastest paths for CSPs to deploy 5G services in a cloud native NFV network through production-grade Kubernetes container services.  VMware Pivotal Container Services (PKS) offers carrier-class compute, networking, storage and operations that are integrated with Kubernetes on BOSH. The solution provides low TCO and increased efficiency through comprehensive monitoring, analytics, and automation to support day 1 and day 2 operations.  The demo provides insights into how this cloud-native framework results in a faster time to value while reliably deploying and operationalizing modern telco networks.

Hybrid Cloud Services

The ability to deploy telco services and applications across data centers and public clouds has not only opened up new business models based on on-demand service expansion, it has also enabled operational efficiency through enhanced disaster recovery and integrated cloud management across private and public clouds.  VMware has partnered with Vodafone to highlight network service continuity and on-demand capacity expansion as network services are seamlessly migrated from the core data center to the AWS cloud.  This demo will also highlight VMware’s robust operational management capabilities providing visibility of services and workloads across multiple private and public cloud.

Internet of Things (IOT)

A multi-cloud infrastructure supporting connected drones? Check! We partnered with key Industrial IOT partners to demonstrate how distributed Edge Data Centers can provide the required infrastructure, including compute, storage and networking, for processing HD Video feeds for drone locations and associated analytics.  In partnership with Globetouch, Affirmed Networks, and Nightingale Security, we are excited to showcase how CSPs can accelerate their path to 5G networks and drive IoT innovation by leveraging 5G network slicing and innovative service delivery utilizing advanced networking that will allow smart devices such as drones to offer HD video surveillance and object recognition, while at the same time delivering customized Quality of Service levels, higher QoE for IoT services, and optimize network performance.

Stop by our booth in Hall 3 Stand K10 to see our demos in action and meet with our experts, our partners, and our customers. Looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona.
