Summary – Recently, Light Reading announced the BTE Leading Lights Award Winners. Leading Lights is the preeminent award program for the communication service provider market. This year, two award-winning solutions have one thing in common….the VMware vCloud for NFV Platform.
Vip mobile – Leading Lights Most Innovative NFV Deployment Strategy
This award is given to the network or data center operator that has devised the most innovative network functions virtualization (NFV) deployment strategy during the past year, and we’re excited to share that VMware customer Vip mobile (Telekom Austria) was selected as the winner. VMware worked in collaboration with Connectem (acquired by Brocade) to provide a vEPC solution for world’s first fully virtualized LTE Core at Vip mobile.
Earlier this year, Telekom Austria Group¹s Serbian subsidiary, Vip mobile, demonstrated the world’s first fully virtualized LTE stack in a live network, delivering data, voice and IMS services, with Connectem providing the virtual Evolved Packet Core across VMware’s Network Functions Virtualization Infrastructure based on vSphere. Connectem and VMware have collaborated to combined production-proven NFVI to Connectem¹s Virtual Core for Mobile solution.
According to Nishi Kant, vice president of mobile networking at Brocade (and previously CEO of Connectem), “We are very pleased to have worked with VMware to demonstrate the power of network functions virtualization in creating new and better options for telecoms services delivery.”

VMware Partner Brocade – A Leading Light in NFV
VMware boasts a broad NFV partner ecosystem. With support for more than 40 different virtual network functions (VNFs) from more than 30 vendors, VMware vCloud for NFV is the only platform available today that runs different VNFs from different vendors side by side on the same unified platform for the cloud.
We’re excited to congratulate our partner Brocade for winning “Best New Product (Mobile)” for their Brocade vEPC solution. VMware and Brocade have ongoing technical collaboration, and VMware’s network functions virtualization infrastructure is fully characterized for Brocade vEPC. Through this partnership, customers can deploy Brocade vEPC on VMware’s production-proven virtualized compute, networking, storage and management solutions with confidence.
The success at Vip mobile, and our collaboration with industry leaders such as Connectem, Brocade and others, are prime examples of the power of partnership in the NFV space. As the market matures, it will be the companies that work collaboratively to deliver the best combined solutions that will capture the hearts and minds of customers.
