In Japan, cashless payments are increasing, with more transactions being completed year over year. To cope with the increasing demand, SB Payment Service, a leading payment agency service provider in the country, turned to VMware Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry for application scalability.
SB Payment Service offers multiple e-commerce merchants a centralized service that integrates various payment methods through a single API. With a lean team of 20 developers and five operators, SB Payment Service has achieved remarkable success using Tanzu Platform, processing a staggering 8 trillion yen in transactions annually with zero downtime.
By leveraging Tanzu Platform capabilities over the last six years, SB Payment Service has accelerated and streamlined application development and deployment, enhanced scalability and resilience, and simplified operations and management.
“Until now, application releases have been procedure-based, but with the newly introduced CI/CD automation, application releases can now be done with a single click. The same is true for platforms, which used to be a manual-based process for scale-out,” says Daichi Kimura, group manager, SB Payment Services.
Automated workflows and integrated tools have enabled SB Payment Service to accelerate development cycles, ensuring rapid time-to-market for new features and services. Application releases can now be done in five minutes or less, as opposed to the 45 minutes they used to take. SB Payment Service has also been leveraging VMware Tanzu Spring as its core development framework, further accelerating app development.
“We have been using Spring Boot for some time now. VMware Tanzu picks up the various metrics from the actuator endpoints of Spring Boot, and there is an ecosystem in place to visualize and utilize. It’s very easy to use,” says Haine Takano, software architect, SB Payment Services.
Tanzu Platform built-in redundancy has ensured high availability and seamless transaction processing even during peak demand periods. Plus, with centralized management, SB Payment Service has streamlined its operational processes, reducing overhead and freeing up valuable resources.
Looking ahead, SB Payment Service is working on cloud native outsourcing of its systems for further scale and plans to develop a modern application in a separate environment.
