People & Process Changes are Critical to Transforming Security

NEIL MANSUKHANI
Advisory Strategist

Transformation and security are nothing new, however, when put together create a whole new dimension of cloud computing. If you own a car, you have a manual that includes a maintenance schedule. The problem is most of us are too busy to fully pay attention to it. If we all had the time to strictly follow the recommended maintenance scheduled, our cars would last forever. As much as I would like that to be true, there are unknowns that we cannot predict. How long are will parts last? Can all the parts survive extreme heat or cold? Are all the handcrafted seals equally created, assembled and correctly placed with the right tolerances and specifications?

As the world changes, security changes at a rate faster than most other technologies and that’s because hackers and threats are getting smarter and more sophisticated. By the time we are proficient to increase levels of security, develop new ways to minimize infiltration and operationalize our teams for day 2 – we may be too late. To make an environment more secure while still maintaining the right levels of performance is simply priceless. Intervention and anticipation are the key to creating a proactive framework for security and networking as opposed to a reactive environment where we are always two steps behind.

What we often forget are the basics, for example when we introduce new policies, we need to change processes to take advantage of new capabilities. We also need to build security expertise within our people, but still have them be aligned to their existing cloud, architecture and operational teams. Having the right organizational structure, training, run books and up to date processes will be key to help shape your IT organization, and to take advantage of new ways to securing your environment.

This short video provides insight and details into why it is critical that people and process changes are important to transforming security. It offers a pragmatic approach and outlines process and organizational changes to optimize your security strategy and methodology with VMware NSX.
