Are you looking for installing new vRealize Network Insight(vRNI) infrastructure(environment) from existing vRNI setup with all the data sources added! And are you wondering how to do it effortlessly? vRSLCM can do it for you, but how?
Deploying a new vRNI environment involves lot of tasks like deploying of ova, applying license, clustering and adding data sources. These things vRSLCM has simplified which can be followed up in this blog – Ninja Guide to Manage vRealize Network Insight using vRSLCM. But if you have already one vRNI setup up and running and you want to create another similar vRNI setup with all the data sources added, vRSLCM can do it with ease. The prerequisite for that is a vRNI setup that is either installed with/imported into vRSLCM.
Step1: Install/Import existing vRealize Network Insight in vRSLCM
Create new vRNI environment in vRSLCM by clicking on import option
Click on Import button
NOTE: If vRNI setup is already created using vRSLCM, there is no necessity to re-import.
.
Enter the Product details like,
- Enter vRNI Admin Username (admin@local)
- Enter console password
- Enter Support password
- Enter Admin Password
- Enter Platform 1 Ipaddress
- Select vCenter Server from the drop-down where the vRNI nodes are running.
Click NEXT, review Summary and Submit
This will import existing vRNI setup into vRSLCM with already added data sources
Now you can see in Managed Environment page vRNI infra with all the data sources imported. You can see the node details by expanding each component. A new vRNI infra can be created like this existing vRNI environment
Step2: Create new vRealize Network Insight infra using existing vRNI environment present in vRSLCM
In vRSLCM, JSON is being used to capture the complete system details such as number of nodes, configurations etc. Hence, at any point in time user can create a JSON specification which vRSLCM accepts and use the same to create environments. Here we need to get the configuration first by downloading it and use this configuration to create a new environment.
Export the Advanced configuration of existing vRNI environment
Downloaded file <environmentname>.json will have all the infra configuration of the existing environment. Check for the configuration details. If any configuration such as IP addresses of platform/collector nodes or data sources need to be changed, they can be edited here. The changes should be done before using this .json file to create new environment as only the IP address of the collector node can be changed for the data sources in the wizard.
Create a new vRNI environment using this configuration file by clicking use configuration file while creating environment
Paste the configuration file content and click on Next button. This will auto fill all the install wizard product properties which user can cross check in the vRSLCM UI.
Once the configuration file loaded review all the details are correct. Cross check details of Data sources, Platform and proxy IP details
NOTE: Since the data sources configuration remain same, only the IP address of the collector node will be editable here. If any other changes must be done, then before importing the json file user has to edit.
Run the precheck, here precheck will not be done for the data source components. After precheck succeeded submit the create environment request. Once deployment started you can check in the request page, data sources will also be as part of the create environment flow
Conclusion:
In vRNI the data souces provide the application the ability to gather data from certain aspects of your data center. If for one vRNI setup there are n number of data sources added and creating a new vRNI setup which is exact replica of this with all the data sources added, vRSLCM can be used as it has automated all the installation, clustering and addition data sources in bulk.
