In this article, we’ll break down the report’s cloud market trends and vendor analysis, including Omdia’s inclusion criteria, methodology, and evaluation results.

Purpose of the Omdia Universe Hybrid and Multicloud Management report

Omdia’s Software Market Forecast states that the hybrid and multi-cloud management market will grow from $8 billion in 2020 to $14 billion by 2023. With high demand for cost-effective hyper-scale availability, reliability, and security, enterprises are moving their applications, workloads, and services to the cloud.

To fully take advantage of the benefits of cloud computing, businesses will also require management and support for their hybrid and multi-cloud environments. Omdia conducted this report to help organizations create a shortlist of solutions in order to make the right purchasing decisions for their business. In their words, “The Omdia Universe report is not intended to advocate an individual vendor but rather to guide and inform the selection process to ensure all relevant options are considered and evaluated in an efficient manner.”

Inclusion criteria

To be included in the Omdia Universe for Hybrid and Multicloud Management, 2020-21, vendors needed to meet certain baseline requirements:

  • Vendor must be global, with customers in all three regions: Asia Pacific; Europe, the Middle East, and Africa; and North America
  • Vendor must offer cloud management capabilities that support platforms/infrastructure other than its own technology
  • Vendor must be able to manage more than server virtualization, to include at least three of the four main areas: compute, storage, network, and applications
  • Vendor must have at least 250 customers and be a mix of midsize and large enterprises

Under these criteria, Omdia evaluated nine hybrid and multi-cloud management solutions. For this report, VMware was evaluated based on its combined solutions: CloudHealth, vRealize Suite, Tanzu Observability by Wavefront, and Skyline. Four other leaders were identified, along with three challengers, and one prospect. You can see the complete list in the report here
