Next week, we see the arrival of VMworld Europe in Barcelona. For those of us who work on management products, it will be a big week. (But you have to stay tuned for why). That said, we will have several sessions which will introduce vCenter Log Insight, as well as troll the depths of its architecture.
(And we have a promotion as well. Click here for more details, or scroll down.).
Barcelona is an appropriate city for VMworld. At VMworld, VMware reveals its latest innovations to a sea of nearly-rabid fans. Barcelona is a city of nearly-rabid fans, mainly for its world-renowned soccer team. But it also has nearly-rabid fans of its architecture as well. Like me. My favorite building in the entire world is the Basilica of La Sagrada Familia.
The Basilica was designed by the ground-breaking architect, Antonio Gaudí. Gaudí is one of the outstanding figures of Catalan culture and international architecture. The Basilica is a radical interpretation of the Gothic style. Its’ facades are richly detailed and quite complex. (Like many IT environments) But there are also moments of whimsy as well. (Unlike many IT environments) Many of the shorter spires on the church are topped, not with religious icons or statues of saints, but fruit. It has been under construction for more than 100 years, and is funded via charity. For example, after more than a century, it has only recently had its roof completed. Nevertheless, if you are in Barcelona for VMworld, I urge you to go see the basilica. It will make your head spin.
Our presentations on vCenter Log Insight will hopefully make your head spin as well, though at a lower RPM, I suspect. They will, no doubt enlighten and edify you. There are 3 key sessions that you should attend if you are interested in Log Insight.
The first is “Uncovering the Hidden Truth in Log Data With vCenter Log Insight“.(VCM7369-S) This session will see a cavalcade of speakers, including Log Insight CTO Jon Herlocker, as well as folks from our partners and some of the folks from the NSX team. The talk will cover our overall strategy in management software, and then cover our vision and implementation of a solid enterprise log management system, AKA Log Insight. We’ll also have a few substantial demos, as well as info presented by one of our partners on how they have extended Log Insight to deliver new levels of network visibility. This presentation is at 11am CET on Tuesday, Oct. 15. To find out more, see the VMworld site.
Next up is “Deep Dive into vSphere Log Management with vCenter Log Insight“(VCM4445) by VMware vRockstar Steve Flanders. This talk will cover the advanced features of the product, and will cover how to do complex big data queries and how to use the product to solve real world problems. This presentation is at 12:30pm CET on Tuesday, Oct. 15, with a reply Thursday, Oct 17, from 1:30pm to 2:30pm CET. To find out more, see the VMworld site.
The final session dedicated to Log Insight is “Tips and Tricks with vCenter Log Insight“(VCM4528). This session is my favorite of the three. Don’t be fooled by the title, which should have called “Everything you always wanted to know about Log Insight so you don’t make the same mistakes I did.” This is by VMware’s own Michael White. This presentation will deliver detailed suggestions on how to make your installation, deployment, and operation of Log Insight easier, based on White’s experience as one of its earliest and most serious users. This presentation is at 5:00pm CET on Tuesday, Oct. 15. To find out more, see the VMworld site.
Late Breaking News: Also don’t forget to attend: VCM1005-GD Log Insight with Steve Flanders, Thursday from 3-4. (See the program guide for location).
If you are not in Barcelona, some of these talks will be on the VMworld site as play backs. If you’d like more info on these presentations, you can check there, or post your questions to our VMTN community.
