In response to a growing demand in China for small-scale Linux VDI implementations, our End-User-Computing Technical-Marketing Center of Excellence team in Beijing ran a series of tests, as documented by Judy Wu in our new VMware Horizon 6 for Linux: Preliminary Sizing Tests white paper.
The team assembled a test bed of hardware readily available in China, a locally popular Linux distribution, and VMware Horizon 6 for Linux. This lab simulated a small-scale environment with 100 Windows 7 endpoints connecting to Linux virtual desktops. In a series of tests, only light “office worker” workloads were utilized, but similar tests could be conducted easily with heavier workloads.
The results showed that this setup adequately supported 90 concurrent connections to Linux desktops. Beyond this point, as more connections were added, performance decreased, and at 100 concurrent connections, performance became unstable.
