Mobile World Congress 2016 was a record-setting year for the mobile industry’s premier event, with more than 100,000 in attendance. That growing interest and excitement surrounding mobility is fueling the next evolution in end-user computing (EUC), according to Sanjay Poonen, VMware’s general manager of EUC.
Sanjay sat down with VMware TV to discuss in detail what’s driving the future of the company and the EUC industry at large. Here are the highlights:
“Growth is really about innovation.”
“When we innovate, growth happens,” said Sanjay, and that’s why VMware is committed to accelerating innovation.
Long after VMware coined the term “workspace,” according to Sanjay, VMware is again shaking up the industry, driving the ubiquity of the “digital workspace” by bringing together the portfolio of VMware innovations into Workspace ONE. “What customers want to see is a solution that meets their needs for the way in which they live today, which is anywhere, any place, anytime,” said Sanjay.
VMware is not only innovating at a dramatically faster pace to meet, and stay ahead, of customers’ expectations but also combining that speed with scale. Customers notice, said Sanjay, and that commitment to innovation is a major reason VMware maintains market leadership and is a strategic partner to many next-gen IT organizations.
“Ecosystems are very important.”
In fact, such ecosystems are driving the future of the industry. The AppConfig Community, which brought EMM providers together on stage at Mobile World Congress, is a prime example of how partnerships will redefine industry standards.
Apps are another space where ecosystems will flourish. Even with all that mobile devices can now offer, a mobile device without support for apps is useless, according to Sanjay. The “any application, any device” story is rapidly resonating with more and more customers, and that’s why VMware is partnering with the most critical business apps to build deep integrations with VMware’s portfolio of solutions, including WorkspaceONE.
“Expect from us two words.”
The digital workspace is robust with features and functionality, but it can be summed up in two words, said Sanjay: consumer-simple and enterprise-secure.
“Line-of-business users are going to get more and more productivity out of us and our applications and our tools that make their life simple,” said Sanjay. “IT is going to get security built into a lot of what we’re doing—security on the device, security in the data center—you’re going to see us doing a lot more in the world of end-user security.”
