Today Apple released macOS 14 Sonoma to the public. The VMware team is excited to announce that the current release of Workspace ONE Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) fully supports macOS 14 Sonoma. Organizations that want to adopt macOS 14 Sonoma for their managed macOS devices can immediately update existing devices and enroll new devices that are already running macOS 14 Sonoma.
Administrators can leverage the macOS Updates Dashboard in Workspace ONE UEM to easily manage the update process. This dashboard gives organizations the flexibility they need to deploy macOS updates in the way that makes the most sense for them; whether that involves simply notifying users of the update, staging the updates on managed devices before installing, or even outright forcing the installation to ensure security compliance.
For organizations that are not adopting macOS 14 Sonoma today and would like to restrict end users from updating to this latest release, the VMware product team recommends deploying a Security & Privacy profile to your devices to ensure the update is blocked. Administrators can block the update for up to 90 days, at which point it will become available to managed devices. Using this profile will ensure you have the time you need to validate all existing applications, workflows, and processes against macOS 14 Sonoma before updating your device fleet.
Whichever way your organization chooses to go today with Sonoma, Workspace ONE UEM has all the tools you need to execute your plans smoothly and efficiently.
To ensure the best experience managing macOS 14 Sonoma, administrators should seek to leverage Intelligent Hub for macOS 23.07.1. Administrators who manage Workspace ONE UEM environments that are not currently running the latest 23.6.0.3 version should review known issues and, if necessary, ensure the appropriate UEM patches are applied before deploying Sonoma into their environment.
