Workspace ONE UEM now supports management for Chrome Enterprise and Education! Following a beta launch in September, we are thrilled to announce general availability with Workspace ONE UEM version 2302. See the release notes here.
For those who missed the beta release, the Workspace ONE team integrated against Google’s Chrome Policy API as part of the Chrome Enterprise Connectors Framework. In VMware documentation, you may see this referred to as “VMware ChromeOS Management V2” because Workspace ONE has supported ChromeOS management for years using a different architecture. Under the new V2 framework, Workspace ONE now has access to the full catalog of ChromeOS policies and, importantly, extends ChromeOS management to education customers.
Workspace ONE for Chrome Education
Adding education support allows us to work with school IT organizations on their UEM journeys — including ChromeOS management on our unified platform with Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, and more. Gone are the days of switching between tools to manage different device types or platforms! And because the integration with the Chrome Policy API applies across Workspace ONE, education customers have access to the same feature sets as enterprise customers. From the Workspace ONE UEM console, admins can push certificates, apps, and extensions; configure browser settings, bookmarks, and access controls; and get real-time visibility for users and devices across any network.
Do more with Workspace ONE and ChromeOS
Google, by introducing the Chrome Policy API, made all ChromeOS management policies available to third-party management solutions (such as Workspace ONE) and empowered ChromeOS admins to use their preferred tools. Everything that can be done from the Google admin console is now fair game, and the Workspace ONE team is working toward full feature parity.
Since our beta launch, Workspace ONE has already added key features such as full certificate lifecycle management, a critical capability going back to our V1 Chrome management architecture. The ability to dynamically push certificates using certificate authority integrations is supported by the Workspace ONE UEM Extension for ChromeOS, which is now live as part of the V2 management solution. The extension gives admins the ability to manage full certificate lifecycles to secure corporate resources and maintain productivity. As additional features are added, they will be available to Workspace ONE customers through the UEM console’s modern DDUI.

Workspace ONE customers with existing ChromeOS deployments through Chrome Management V1 are advised to migrate to V2 to take advantage of the more dynamic and feature-rich management solution going forward. Additional migration details can be found here.
We look forward to working with customers across education and enterprise sectors, alike, and helping you get the most out of your ChromeOS deployments.
