The Geek Crowd Abstract:

Social Media Lounge, Tuesday

Find out the latest in VDI protocol comparisons and VDI performance best practices from unbiased and independent technology experts.

11:00 AM – Session 1: Remoting Protocols Turned Inside Out: “How Graphics and Media Remoting Really Work”

Presented by Shawn P. Bass, Senior IT Consultant/Owner of SynNet, this session will cover how the major remoting protocols differ from each other and what those differences mean for the users. It will also address how to choose the best methods to use when remoting standard graphics and multimedia output formats.

11:30 AM – Session 2: New VDI Performance Best Practices by Project Virtual Reality Check (VRC)

Presented by Ruben Spruijt, Technology Officer at PQR and Jeroen van de Kamp, CTO at Login Consultants, this session provides results and best practices for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) and Remote Desktop Services (formerly Terminal Server) workloads as found in Project “THE Virtual Reality Check.” This R&D project started in early 2009 and has involved more than 850 tests.

Theater Sessions Abstracts

Email as a Service with VMware Zimbra

CSC combines 50 years of managed service experience, their Trusted Cloud Data Centers and the VMware Zimbra messaging suite to offer CloudMail: VMware Zimbra.  CSC is  the first global cloud provider to offer Zimbra messaging functionality delivered as a service with consumption based pricing and the only provider offering a complete cloud email solution with Zimbra that includes migration support and on and off premise deployment options. Learn how you can move to next generation functionality on an open platform with a resilient, high availability and secure service offering from CSC.

Thin App'ng for Citrix Environments
This session will show customers how easy it is to integrate ThinApp into an existing packaging process and how easy to implement in a Citrix XenApp environment.

Top 5 Things You Always Wanted to Know but were Afraid to Ask
What questions are you dying to get answered about View?  See if my top 5 match yours and learn something about the product that you always wanted to know.

Accelerating VMware ThinApp Deployments with AppSense User Virtualization
This session will cover how AppSense applies user-specific application personalization on-demand across ThinApp applications and all other application deployment approaches. This accelerates the initial deployment  of ThinApp, makes the transition non-distributive for users, and makes it easy for IT to support a mixed environment when needed. You will also learn how joint technical collaboration between AppSense and VMware and new ThinApp API support will soon make the move to ThinApp applications even more seamless.

Adding A Social Layer To Your Existing Business
Valuable information is locked inside business systems like SharePoint, CRM, and Intranets across an organization, making people communicate in one system, and work in another. This causes the communication of data, information and people to become fragmented, inaccessible or delayed. Socialcast empowers workers to experience an uninterrupted flow of conversations and ideas, connecting people to the information they need to get more meaning out of their work.  The end-to-end integration of a structured social layer into existing business systems is the core of what makes the Socialcast solution uniquely powerful—people remain focused on their work and achieve the highest quality results in less time. Integrating a social layer into the fabric of how business gets done on a daily basis is fundamentally changing everything about the way companies organize, lead, manage, produce, sell, market and deliver products and services to market.

Designing a non-stop desktop architecture with VMware View
This panel will reveal how to achieve always-on HA virtual desktop architecture and walk through the end-to-end design with considerations of storage replication, infrastructure active-active HA along with ISV solution integration on  security, persona profile management, and single-sign-on.

VMware Horizon Application Manager
Come understand the positioning, value proposition, and vision of VMware Horizon App Manager with the EUC portfolio. This session will highlight current GA customers and system uptime to communicate that this is a legitimate up and running bona fide service hosted by VMware. We’ll review the current SaaS partners and certification program and review Internet standards of Federated and SAML Demonstrate the Administrator functionality and end user experience Review the vision and future direction of the solution.

NSD: Resilient VDI deployment in Healthcare with VMware View and Vblock
VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) with VMware View offers a great way for Healthcare IT departments to reduce operational costs and provide greater flexibility to core operations. VDI can be implemented in many situations, from big hospitals to small practices, with many advantages over traditional client/server environments. In addition to power, space, and IT operational savings, VDI offers improved security, robustness, and portability.

Gain Performance, Scale and HA: VMware Zimbra is optimized for vSphere
Recent testing has demonstrated that VMware Zimbra, the leading next-generation email and collaboration solution, has significant advantages over its competitors when running on vSphere. Zimbra is optimized for vSphere: its flexible and scalable architecture allows deployment on a single server or multi-server environment and can be virtualized with high availability and monitoring. During this session, we will walk through these advantages and discuss real-world high availability and disaster recovery using vCenter Site Recovery Manager and automated load balancing with VMware Distributed Resource Scheduler (DRS).

Deploy 100 Seat VMware View (VDI) for less than $200 per Desktop
VDI deployments can be difficult to cost-justify at small scale because of the upfront costs associated with conventional SANs or NAS. Scale-out appliances that deliver integrated virtual servers and scale-out SAN storage offer a cost-effective alternative approach that meets the performance and reliability needs of VDI infrastructure at small (and large) scale.

Choosing the right access device for your virtual desktop environment
In this unbiased session we'll try to cut through the noise and explain how to choose the right end-node for your desktop virtualization infrastructure. Attendees will learn the strengths and weaknesses of different client types (zero clients, thin clients, repurposed PCs) and when to choose which option. And, we will finally answer that age-old question "What exactly is a Zero Client" (and why do I care)

Thin App vs App-v vs Native Performance

An overview of ThinApp Application Virtulization will be discussed along with results of performance tests conducted on ThinApp, Appv and Native Microsoft Word application for Office 2007.   This session will provide information on the test environment, testing methodology and test results.

Delivering View Desktops as a Service
Desktops are moving to the cloud. Find out how you can increase business agility, enhance security and offset hardware and operating expenses in the enterprise with Computer Science Corporation’s (CSC) new cloud hosted virtual desktop offering featuring VMware View.

Performance Monitoring and Root-Cause Analysis for Desktop Workloads with vCenter Operations

This theater session will explain how applying an upcoming new solution – based on a flavor of vCenter Operations designed specifically for a View environment – can help in identifying performance degradation for Virtual Desktop workloads in real time.

VMware Ready Desktop Solutions

VMware Ready Desktop Solutions: Create and deliver validated desktop solutions with VMware View and ecosystem of best-in-class partners to accelerate customers' time to value and reduce risk.
