General support for VMware Horizon 7 ends April 30, 2023, impacting all versions up to and including VMware Horizon 7.13. Read this blog to understand why and how to upgrade to Horizon 8 now: “Top 8 Reasons to Upgrade to VMware Horizon 8.”

Understanding network traffic flows and ports is critical to designing and implementing any infrastructure for a solution, and a VMware Horizon 7-based solution is no exception.

With all the features and enhancements VMware has put into Horizon 7, including the many improvements and changes to Blast Extreme, we felt that it was time for a new and improved diagram to show the network ports in use between all the Horizon 7 components.

In fact, we did more than just produce one revised diagram. We produced no fewer than 20 versions of the diagram, each focusing on a different client connection type (internal, external or tunneled) and also on a particular display protocol (Blast Extreme, PCoIP or HTML Access).

To accompany and help you understand the diagrams, we created a completely new white paper that lists port requirements for connectivity between the various components and servers in a Horizon 7 deployment. This white paper is appropriately called Network Ports in VMware Horizon 7.

No need to worry: The diagram above is the most complex example. It contains all three possible client connection types and also all the possible display protocols. This version of the diagram also displays all the server components and roles in Horizon 7 Enterprise Edition.

The different subset views of the diagram are displayed throughout the white paper as lower-resolution graphics and also are available as high-resolution versions, in a format suitable for detailed viewing or printing as posters. To view these larger, higher-resolution versions of the diagrams, access the Attachments panel in the white paper PDF file, or click on a particular diagram to open a high-resolution version of that diagram.

Note: Download the main white paper PDF and view it locally (rather than in a browser) for full interactive functionality.

Be sure to download the new Network Ports in VMware Horizon 7 white paper, and use the attached high-resolution versions of the diagrams. Send us feedback at [email protected].
